What is the black plastic thread adjuster near the brake pedal for?  Mine seems to be slightly loose when not applying the brake.  I think it has been that way forever.

Brake light switch. It pulls when applying the pedal.

You do not want to adjust it until it is tight,, that would cause the brake light to be on all the time,, it should be adjusted so that 1/2 inch or so of brake pedal movement causes the brake light to come on.
