Good to know info

I was curious about how much gas I actually had remaining after I switched to reserve, so I did some measuring my draining the reserve into a jug. Don't worry, I was very scientific about it and did it in my garage with the bike upright.
Answer: Exactly one gallon.
Bike: 1999 Interstate.
Just FYI.

The manual states there is (1.06 US gal) in the reserve. That means we have .06 gal of crud waiting to be stirred-up

And on a similar note, I have gone 30 miles on reserve (97 Valk Tourer). Trying to make it from Moab UT to Loa UT. At the time we went on reserve, we didn't know where the next gas station (or town for that matter) would be, so we slowed it down to 40 mph and were coasting down the hills. I don't know how much further it would have gone, but was still running when we pulled into the gas station.

The 1.06 gal is for the Interstate, the Tourer and Standard they list as 1.14 gal.
I usually do some quick math when I go on reserve using 1 gal to give me a cushion, hopefully. Last month I ran out east of Albuquerque, NM. Only walked a half mile before a young man gave me a ride, temp was triple digits.

That is with the stock. Pingle cuts that roughly in half.

That's interesting about the Pingle. If I had a Pingle, I'd add an extension to the reserve tube.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

But you do get further on the main tank. I make it a habit of getting gas at around the 150 mile mark since I haven't had a trip knob in a few years it made it easy to figure. I only worry when I get west of the Missouri River.
