Recently, like two days ago, I removed my back wheel and took it to have a new E3 mounted on it. Brought it home and put it back on the tire. Yesterday I rode down to Skinheads house and back. My 40 miles roundtrip. Glanced at the back wheel today as I walked past the bike and noticed small oil tracers on the rim. Upon inspecting closer I noticed a drop of oil on the bottom of the pumpkin. It looked as if it came from the small square opening at the bottom of the plastic ring that is attached to the pumpkin. Any ideas? Unfortunately I didn't think to take the picture until after I wiped the oil off.

Did you change the final drive oil? I think it is normal to find a drop or two of oil on the pumpkin if:

 - you check it right after you change it.

 - you filled it up with the pumpkin on the bike.

I think oil gets in the groove around the fill hole, and drizzles down to the pumkin's
lowest point  on your first ride...

Did all that stuff last year. This time, all I did was pull the wheel, got the tire changed and put the wheel back on. Guess I'll just keep an eye on it. Just seems strange that It happened right after I had the wheel off and the reinstalled it.

Did you change the O rings, or at least verify that they are still in good condition???  Like Tank said, it may be some lube from the final splines if an O ring has failed. Keep an eye on it, you will know shortly if you have a problem and it continues.

First of all, I want to thank you all for the input. We found the problem. Went for a short ride tonite with Al V. When we reached our destination we saw that there was more oil on the wheel. Upon closer inspection, by Al V, we ralized it was coming from the shock on the right side. Pooling up around the lower bolt and running down the pumpkin. Send em back to Progressive for a rebuild. Skinhead has already offered me his spare set of Interstate shocks. Just another example of what makes this club so great.

So, is your rear wheel chromed, or is it just polished out that well???
