Was looking on hdlparts.com at Honda Valkyrie fuel tanks. I know there are several options, either the tank for the Std./Tourer or the Interstate tank. When looking at the tanks available for any one particular modes, several are listed under different parts numbers. What I don't know is what the Type is for. In the same listings, there are Type 5 and Type 6 tanks listed.

Does the "Type" has something to do with the color? If so, how do you know what color Type 5 is vs Type 6? The plain black tanks, and other parts of the bike, are always indicated as being black. It seems only the solid colors and indicated. Any ideas?

I have never figured out their code for the tanks either.

It has been reported that the tanks are no longer available, if that is why you are looking.  I do not know that for a fact though.

Honda Direct Line usually removes an item from their lists if it is no longer available. Given that, there seem to be quite a few tanks still available. I know when I ordered an Interstate tank for my Tourer late last year I had no problem getting one.

Hopefully that's still the case as I may have to order another one. Took the tank, side covers, center cover, fenders and saddle bags to a professional painter back in February and was given a completion date of April 15. Date came and went, no paint. Kept in contact with the painter and he assured me that although he was behind, the parts would be painted in short order. During weekly checks he said the work was underway and it would be one more week. Here we are nine weeks later and I've had enough. Contacted him last week and he promised it would be ready Sat. June 22. Drove the 2.5 hours down to Kamloops to pick them up and was surprised to find that his shop, downtown Kamloops, was closed with signs on the door from the landlord and a bailiff company. Seems he's gone out of business due to failure to pay bills and all my parts are missing.

As expected, I can't contact him via landline, cell, email or text. He's up and disappeared with my deposit and parts. Who knows how many of his clients are screwed now. He's had a well established business there for 12 years, won numerous awards and came highly recommended by many I talked to throughout the area before hiring him.

So, here I sit with no parts and facing the possibility that I may never see them again! Still waiting to hear back from the bailiff and landlord. Hopefully they can help otherwise I'm totally screwed. Don't know wether to buy all new parts or tear down the bike and part it out. Neither is something I want to do – I've invested too much time and money in this 14-month restoration and customization project.

And, as if this wasn't bad enough, this is the third painter in a row to screw me. Wasted four months waiting on my first painter before I pulled the job. The second was nothing but a con man who claimed to be a painter and managed to bluff his way into getting the job. Five months and a half-fnished botched job later, and $2,650 spent, and I had to start over. Thought I did all the right things with this last painter – checking references, meeting him and his staff, touring the shop and examining other work he had done. Guess I was wrong... again!

In total, between paint and deposits made, it has cost me about $7,600 and I have nothing to show for it – not even poorly painted parts. Frustrated and pissed of don't come close to how I'm feeling at this moment.

I purchased this tank last July, from HDL.

I had some challenges getting them to ship it, but it was a brand new tank, the paint was still soft.
I was told by the HDL guy that they build them every few months depending on demand. He said this one was made in California.

The tank arrived expertly packed from Honda.
Because I waited for one of the rare 15% sales, I got a pretty good deal and because of the shipping delay they Fedex'd it to me 'no charge'. As a result there was no duty or taxes collected. I was very pleased when the dust finally settled!
