Udate,,,, The new pads are in and alls good one gentalman that responded to my orignal post thought it was a lil soon at 12,500 miles to need pads ,,,, well in a way he was correct 3 of the 4 pads had plenty of pad left but the outter left side pad was gone,I have some very very minamal scarring of roter anyway My friend Dr.John a loyal Honda owner for 40 yrs and one time Honda shop head mechanic helped me I got all kinds of custome chrome chit and lights on my front wheel, but to the point what he feels happened is that outter left pad failed whch is to say the pad material broke away from the pad plate WTF LOL any one ever have that happen?Thaaaaaaaanks For Allthe advice GUYS

I can't chime in on the air filter as I run K&N. But as far as the brake pads the OEM are the best in my opinion. EBC's chatter and squeal. I just purchased OEM brake pads for my bike. I contacted both local Honda stealers and both carried EBC's but no OEM's Huh? When I was talking to one of the parts guys I said no I don't want EBC's they're junk he laughed and said I was the first to say that and most didn't know any better. lol He just confirmed they were junk but sold them anyway.

After reading many post here I use OEM. Not one complaint from me. I order online and have them waiting when I want to change.

Last time I did rear pads, all they had were EBC. I chose the "organic" ones figuring they were closer to oem and haven't had a problem. I will probably go with oem when I do the fronts though.

Maldog.....just curious how many miles are on the current set of pads and have they ever been changed to your knowledge. The pads (especially the front) don't have a lot of friction material even when new so one could easily look at a front pad that has only .100 left and think of replacement. Those pads will easily last many thousands of miles more.

Here is a link and current price for 1 set of rear pads. $36.57 is buyers price. I don't know if they are still OEM you might want to call. http://www.hdlparts.com/default.asp (Honda Directline) 002 PAD SET, RR. 06435-MZ0-006 (replaces 06435-MZ0-760) 001 $44.16 $36.57

I have used organic EBC pads for a long time, the whirring sound on application goes away as they bed in, have never heard them make any other noise. They do not damage the rotors. Used them for over 100,000 miles. Half the price of OEM pads. I use EMGO filters. Hoser

Hoser My new to me last year IS had EBC pads (not sure which ones, "H" I think) put on by a local independent dealer. After 2500 miles they do still make a whirring noise when applied but you get used to them.

WOW Im feelin da luv Brothers and thanks for all the good advise to answer the questuon about miles on the current set Im going to assume ( I Know LMAO) that they are the orignal set cause MY 2001 IS only has 12,600 miles aprox I pruchaced the Bike in 2008 with 1200 orignal miles on it that being said its a fair bet they are the orignals ,in 2011 I put a set of Avon Cobras on her and i asked the shop Mnger to check the pads ,he said at that time they looked about half way down but now im getting a slight grinding in the front i assume the pads are gone,Im not sure if there is a avg life expectancy on pads because of different riding styles ,my riding style is old man hehe any way id just as soon throw some pads on her and know and have confidance i have brakes. My local dealer wants about 90 dollars for a set of front and rear pads and there EBC wooo much more than the prices im seeing on ebay i can get a set of kevlar carbon pads front and rear for 25 bucks and i can get differnt types for front and rear for under 60 dollars now does any one know if these pads are of a decent quality for the money and would it be ok to buy them thanks guys

With a minority if dissenters, common wisdom on this board, which I follow and have no reason to disagree with, is to use OEM pads if you have OEM rotors. If you do otherwise, do your research and be prepared for a difference in sound/feel/rotor wear from OEM. My experience is dissatisfaction with DP Brakes HH pads in front, and satisfaction with OEM pads front and rear.

I have EBC rotors on the front w/EBC pads.
If you use them easy for the 1st 200 miles, they will be seated and you should not have a squeal.
The secret to no squeal on any rotor and pad is break em in easy, no hard braking and NO Panic stops.
I'm going on 226,000 on these rotors and they still look like new. I've used 3 or 4 set of pads, but no squeal or chatter. The braking when the pads are seated, and you pull off a panic stop, they are 190% better than stock.

12,000 miles seems a bit early for needing pads. Usually they are good for 30-40 K in the front and 40-50K in the rear. So unless something unusual has happened, I would look twice about changing them. In any case I would use OEM pads with your rotors.
I would have another question though, are you on the original tires....if so, they are getting a bit long in the tooth....

I like to install new pads a couple of weeks before a long trip parts are hard to find in new areas. I take the old pads and hang them on a nail in the garage because some have a lot of pad left. If a pad wears down before I see it I can add some pads from my stash until my order arrives.
