Here are my stats for my trip to the VOAI Reunion.

1997 standard, with IS sidebags, and Tsungu trunk.

4977 total miles, used 175.81 gallons.  Average of 28.309 mpg.

I ran 70-75 going and coming.  Of course, much slower when riding the roads at Cambridge.  I got right at 34 mpg riding at the Reunion.

Glad you posted this trip info. Have taken 3 trips cross country always running the speed limit + 5-10 mph. My trip average (every mile traveled) all 3 trips was 30 mpg. My Tourer is solo with travel gear strapped on and tire pressure checked each morning. The wind in New Mexico made her really thirsty Smiley

When I followed my friend on his 1700 six speed to Key West we ran 87mph all the way. (probably an honest 80 because MC speedos are never accurate) I got 26 mpg. I have got 49 before though following senior Citizens. Got as low as 22 pulling a trailer. The 49.5 mpg was with cobras and the baffles out. Go figure, don't think we run higher than 55mph all day

those numbers are very real, many won't admit to getting the same or similar
a Valk should not be acquired based on getting high mpg, that's what scooters are for!

MP rides a bit harder than he professed, and also is darkside with a 55 series tire, it will cost a few more rpm for that. I was chasing him, and it was definitely not flower smelling pace.  The man never gets lost!  That's why I like chasing him. As you may or may not know, a 97 is tuned a bit warmer the the later models.  Oh, did I mention he is nearly twice my size?   Hoser   cooldude  Grin

None. But, I never have.  I would guess 80% of the fuel purchased was ethanol.  I just bought whatever was cheapest on the pump!  LOL

Actually, it is a 60 series General Altimax, so rpms about the same as OEM.   When traveling, which was most of the miles, I also had a backpack strapped to the back seat, so some more wind resistance there.

Since when do you weigh 125#?  LOL

I don't see where a pack directly behind the driver gives more wind resistance. I took a trip, two up saddle bags loaded and a pack on the luggage rack mounted to the sissy bar and still got 38 mpg doing 65 to 75 mph.

Would you like to see a picture of the trip odometer and the gas pump readings and you do the math? I reset the trip odometer at each fill up. I have check this many times and average 35 to 40 on trips, less around town if I keep from twisting the wrist too much.

My '97 always averaged 23-28 MPG, with Cobras and a K&N filter.  My '01 averages 36-41 MPG with the same modifications and speed on the interstate 75-100 and back roads 55-70.

No, they do not perform the same from the but dyno, the '01 will hit the dyno this fall.  My 97 was a smooth beast that pulled like a train;I hope it will be recovered someday soon.

I didn't mind looking for gas at 90-100 miles, the '01 mpg has taken some time to get used to.

Just my .02 cents on MPG figures.

I would say MP is right on with my expercience I run 75 almost all the time and get 24-28 depending on the wind. I need a stretch every 100 miles anyhow so don't bother me.

The Valkyrie-in my case anywho-is WAY more capable than I am at this point in my life. When it's cool out-85 or less 150-180 mile fuel stops are good. When it gets hotter-over 95-stops of 50 to 75 miles are NOT uncommon fer me. I would much rather stay well hydrated in the hotter weather than takin a chance on doing myself in fer a couple extry miles.  uglystupid2 RIDE SAFE.

Here is some real hard to read chicken scratch that I kept for two different trips from Abq, NM to Ohio and back.

One trip I averaged just over 39 mpg.  The other barely over 35 mpg.  I blame the difference on newer crappy gas that they are selling us.  But, it could have been differences in wind.

BTW, I have the Stock windshield, Bakers Air-Wings, and someone's lowers (and bags).
Oh, and I cruise just a couple mph above the speed limit.  It's too tough watching for police the whole way.
