The one that came out is plastic the new one is metal . It broke off inside the block and I boogered the threads getting it out.I worked with it about a hour and it just won't start into the threads.

Check with some local auto parts.
The Advance Auto by me rents tools, maybe one in your area might do the same.

Amazon's got what you want, but I don't see a "one day air"... it would ship Tuesday, and not get
to you for several days after that...

Good luck...

Pipe thread would be designated NPT so that is probably a standard bolt thread. I don't have any taps that large at home. I'll check at work tomorrow but I don't think I've got one there either.

A larger industrial maintenance shop would probably have one so if you can think of a bud or neighbor in industrial maintenance they might be able to hook you up.

There is a Grainger branch in Knoxville.

Not cheap.

Joe just maybe if you grind down the threads on the new piece on the end make them a taper shape you can put a little muscle behind it and get it in. I would say about 3/16 the way up should do the trick. Make the end like cone shape also as a last resort and you tried this and it just about catches then take a hack saw and cut a angled groove in the end just in the taper area and just maybe you can cut and catch the threads this will also somewhat clean up the threads.

The hole is buried between the A/C and water pump more so the A/C and I sure hope I don't have to pull all that mess off.I'll keep your idea in mind but tapping it out would be my best bet I think.

Joe,
I checked my toolbox in the garage and the biggest one I have is a 7/8.  tickedoff I'm off from work until the 12th, but I know I have one at work. If you don't have it fixed by then, let me know and I'll try to get it out of the shop. Security is kinda tight, seeing as I work for a nuclear place and all that.
But in the meantime, should you get one, be sure to put a lot of grease on the tap to catch the little aluminum chips and to keep them from being pushed through into the system. I'm not exactly sure what it is you are working on, engine block or what, but I wouldn't want all those loose chips floating around looking to plug something else up. Just a thought of a veteran 35year machinist. Take free advise for what it is worth! Smiley
Good luck,

Go to Home Depot in the aisle for irrigation stuff....sprinklers, pvc, fittings, etc.  That's where you should find a tool made for just that problem, it removes broken nipples from irrigation pipe. Just a couple bucks as I recall, and real time saver. It would have worked wonders for you Joe, I've even used it on metal pipe when the pipe isn't rusted in place.
