New To Me August 2013

North Houston

« on: July 05, 2013, 04:07:22 AM »

I have a free day to burn some gas and want to tryout a new truck tire I put on my Valk. I also want to see a new road. I have never seen old 90 or been to Shiner tx.  I plan to take 90 to San Antonio and have lunch somewhere near the Alamo. Stafford to the Alamo is 198miles.

Lunch should be Fudruckers one block south of the Alamo Plaza Fuddruckers
115 Alamo Plaza, San Antonio, TX 78205 around 12:30.

For the return, I was planning to take 21 north to Bastrop and then 71 south to LaGrange and 159 back East to Hempstead.

Should be a long ride but the weather looks good and the sun will be at my back most of the day.

Anyone wanting to come send me a message or meet at the Stafford Ihop 12725 Southwest Fwy, Stafford, TX 77477 at 8AM. KSU at 8:30.

Im ridding my black standard.

Marcus,

If you are riding  and it is a must that you keep your eyes on the road, you are riding too fast.

I made the trip but I need to do better at scheduling.  Stopped at Shiner for the tour about 10:30 and then did not make it to San Antonio until after 1:00. I was by myself so I took the 1604 loop around and had lunch with my Son at UTSA. Got back on the road at 3PM.  The 1604 west loop and 35 north exit cooked me.  it took me three hours to get to LaGrange. I got home around 8PM. By time I got East of LaGrange it was a lot more comfortable and I even did the 1488 loop thru Magnolia to 249 as an alt to getting on 290. I did notice that a Dark side tire at 30 psi cold, gets a lot harder when heated. I could feel the tire was stiffer when turning. All in all it was a 450 mile day.

I now have some shiner  wood coins as a souvenirs.  I drank one sample then left.

Stay off 90 during work days. There are more rock trucks than cars and dust is bad.
