If anybody that has XF6's desmog kit and could post a close up of the plugs installed it would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

No picture handy, but if you are talking about the larger plugs that go in the block, maybe I can help describe the fit.

They are tapered, more narrow at the bottom than top, and when 'lightly tapped' in, should be flush with the part of the block around the hole...

Hope that helps.

Sweet, I have to do this.  I have had the F6X kit for about three years in my saddlebag.

I have been having difficulties getting mine to seat properly. I presumed that the side with the very small point was the side that was intended to go in to the engine block, while the other completely flat side would be the "tapping" side. I unfortunately do not have a good caliper to find which is the tapered side. Did either of you have difficulties getting it flush? How hard is "lightly tapping" btw, hard enough to drive a nail into wood, or hard enough to drive a picture hanging nail into sheetrock...

Thanks again for your help.

You are correct, the end with the small point is the end that goes down.  The edge of the plug has a radius on it so it will be easier to drive into the 4 holes.  The top edge is sharp to fill up the hole to the edge so water/dirt/other stuff doesn't gather there.
The block off plates for the bottom are top notch.

I didn't have to tap mine too hard, but maybe harder than the picture frame nail into sheetrock.

What Hayhauler said about tapping maybe harder than the picture frame nail. Everything in the XF6 kit worked as it should and it was a very clean installation.

WOW! This bike looks new. The XF6 desmog kit really does a great job of making the top plugs look like a factory finish. Makes me rethink the freeze plug method I started with. I suppose I could mix up more JB Weld to fill in the plug flush with the head to possibly achieve the same results. Nice job.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Are you tapping the right end in 1st? My plugs from napa look like little bowls. Tap the contoured end in 1st and the cup part should be facing up. I just used a small socket to tap mine in.

Used on both my bikes.  You can do it cheaper, but you can't do it better.

I thought the kit also included a couple Viton B vacuum (or other) lines that remain in place after complete desmog (petcock vacuum?) (don't see any in the kit picture).   I know I had them for use in the desmog, maybe they were from from elsewhere.  I got all desmog parts several years ago, and Big BF did the work for me last year, along with all intake gaskets large and small (and valves, carb synch, and petcock rebuilds, among other things).

The freeze plugs are tapered as is the port in the head. I tried the other way and it was cutting the sides of the port. I did not like how tight the 14mm plugs were going to be so I took a few thousands off by spinning it on a bench grinder. The exhaust pressure at this location should not be that high. If it was the air injection would not work without a pump. I could be wrong here, I have not had issues with the plug blowing out. The plug is sealed in place with JB Weld and two small chiseled dimples into the head.

Thanks for the pictures Lastdragon, I realized I was just not tapping them in hard enough. I put aside the rubber mallet, picked up a ball-peen and worked them down flush.

Cheers
