I recently finished the install of an AudioVox cruise control.  While in there I De-smogged the engine and replaced all the fuel and vacuum lines.

My mileage until this point had been a worst of 28mpg ( loose vacuum and intake line) My best had been 40mpg while putting around with the wife on some back roads. I let her lead  to set the pace as she is a fairly new rider.

My average riding back and forth to work was about 32 mpg.

I've run two tanks since doing the work on her.

The 1st tank we were doing a group ride, two lane roads mostly, with a few small towns and several stop and goes.  I always ride at the back of the pack to pick up any problems with the more inexperience riders.

I got 44 mpg on that tank.  I thought it was a fluke.

So the 2nd tank I had about 30 miles of interstate driving, the rest was back and forth to work trying to keep the horses under control. It is 12 miles to work, about 9 of those are non-stop 60mph two-lanes. I used my cruise control as much as possible on the straights.

My second tank I got 48.8mpg.!!!

I know it is summer time and the bike doesn't have to warm up as much but is it possible to increase the MPG THAT MUCH with the minor changes I made or is my calculator broke?

If you fixed some vacume problems that is what was robbing your gas milage surprised you were not having other problems.  De smog wouldn't affect gas milage. Between the cruise controll and fixing some of the fuel circuit I can see your gas milage jumping up.  You may also want to rebalance the carbs.

I would have thought there would have been more signs also but no it ran as smooth as silk. It is easier to start now.  Only hits 2-4 cylinders before cranking instead of 6.

I am putting some new ELITE 3's on tomorrow.

After that, Re-Balancing the carbs is next on my list although I don't think they need much, I have a very slight variation at idle. Maybe 100-150 rpm according to the Tach.  I can do the Nickel trick with no problems.

Good Point, I was thinking more CHECKING the balance.  If I did decide to touch them I would document every turn of every screw so I could return to where it is now if needed.

I can't help myself.  I'm a tinkerer!

With that kind of mileage, I would not even check them!  On the slight chance I might mess something up.  If you calculated right, that is GREAT MPG's.
Leave well enough alone.  My two centavos.

Dad always used to say.... "Don't mess with the band while it's playing"    and I think that is applicable here....

OKay you all win... Grin

I will leave it alone and try not to even think of tinkering with it. Hopefully my dynabeads will arrive today so I can get the tires on. I'm heading to Harbor freight to pick up an Air Compressor so I don't have to keep running up to the local service station while trying to seat the beads.

Also have a list of honey does to do around here since tomorrow is my better half and mine anniversary. cooldude
