I have a 98 Standard Valkyrie. During the off season I'm going to be installing a batwing fairing. I was wondering if anyone knows if the if the lower fairings and hard-side saddlebags from an Interstate fit on a Standard Valkyrie?

Thanks,

Bags will interfere exhaust tips unless you change to the IS tips or raise bags 3/4 inch.

Lowers must have the IS crash guards and the plastic IS heat block in front of the carbs.

Exhaust tips have to be changed?!?   Shocked  When did that happen?  The bags and bag mounts mount to Standards exactly the same as they do on an Interstate.  The mounts are the same part number.  Exhaust tips do not matter.

To answer your question, yes, Interstate bags are a direct fit on a Standard no problem.

The side pods however....not so much....they're not a direct bolt on/fit.  It can be done, but you'll need the parts from an Interstate to mount them.

There's several folks on here that's done it.....maybe they'll chime in on the how-to's of mounting Interstate pods on a Standard/Tourer.

read this how to page by tim skelton it shows a complete breakdown of installing interstate pods on a standard step by step first thing you need is time and a pile of cash and if you want to add OEM fog lights get a bigger pile of cash ready and any hondaline tip the triple/standard or interstate tip will fit with OEM bags

We disagree, and having tried it I know that the IS exhaust tips are (for a reason) different than the Standard exhaust tips and the heat shield on the IS bags will hit the Standard tips. NO QUESTION IN MY MIND.

As for the Tourer Bags I do not know.

Not sure on the bags, Tourers have std tips and no issues (except they don't look as good).
There is a heat block on the std. The IS heat blocks extend out further to the sides to direct the air through the pods.

As for the pods,  you need crash bars from an Interstate and the "air guide" for an I/S.  The Std has an air guide but it is very narrow. (it sets behind the radiator) The one for an I/S is much wider and directs the hot air coming through the radiator into the pods making them functional.  If you decide to do this mod, there is a trick to get the air guide in there...I would be happy to share the info with you.   Wink

early I/S bags had different heat shields hence the different exhaust, Mark T site has mods for those shields to work on a std. I installed the later I/S bags/shields (from an '01? no seams) on my '98 std, shields are different and no mods where required, direct bolt-on.
so it was always the shields that required the different exhaust not the bags it seems.

can you just turn the standard tip sideways and drill a new mounting hole in the tip to secure it like a side/slash kinda look

Uh, no.

Interstate bags on Standard with bigger & longer pipes than stock.
No problems. Absolute proof in the pic.

Some of you folks are just not listening.
I tried to mount a STD set of exhaust tips on a 1999 IS. Theory does not override reality.

THEY WILL NOT FIT, NO WAY without raising the bags and heat shield.

I am done - you go try it. I know it does not work.

The bags will absolutely work. I have done it without any modification.  As for the standard exhaust tips not working on an interstate, that may be true. The Interstate has longer piggies and the are horizontal as opposed to the shorter vertical piggies on a standard and tourer. The bottom saddle bag bracket (heat sheild) is made the same and it does have a indention where the shorter vertical pipes fit under the shield.

You don't have to change squat, the bags bolt right on, mine clear the std pipes by about 3/4 -1 inch and have been reasonably polite about it for years. You cannot just rotate the tips on either style of exhaust, the piggies are vertical on std/tourer and horizontal on the I/S. I believe someone about a year ago wrote about successfully heating and moving the piggies around to swap tips but I have never done it myself.

Marks' has completely different heat shields than my set of I/S bags came with. I had to do ZERO mods, bags/brackets/shields all bolted right onto to my std with OEM exhaust.

I thank you all for all the input. My bike is a 98 Standard. I have the Cobra pipes on it now. I'll be doing the work this Winter. I let you all know how it comes out. I'll be adding the hard saddlebags, lower fairing (radiator covers) from an IS, and the batwing fairing from a Harley. Then a complete paint job. If anybody has done any of the above, feel free to chime in.

Again thanks for all the input,
