Would anyone have any pictures of the rear crash bars (that sit under the hard bags on the Tourer and the InterState) without the hard bags fitted?
My Standard uses the Givi side boxes on their own mounting frames, but being a Standard those under bars never came with the bike.

If I can get some idea of mounting points, shape, etc, I should be able to get a local fabricator knock something together that may help to protect the bags (and ourselves) in case of a slow lay-down.

Also, if I can get some idea of size (length, width, bar diameter, etc) that would be great too.

My buddy has laid his 1500 GoldWing down a couple of times now, and I could see immediately the benefit of those rear bars. They really protected things.

Thanks.

Near the top of this page click on Shoptalk

Then click on :Honda Valkyrie Microfiche

Scroll down to the bottom and click on GL65

or if the link below will work click on that for the same results.

Thanks Bone, but I've looked at those microfiches until I'm going cross-eyed and am still having trouble figuring out how they are fixed.
Also, they don't give the sizes I need either.
I'm hoping that 'actual real' pictures will help this project along.

Hey Phil,

Because those guards are integrated for OE honda hardbags, they are a pretty convoluted design.  Finding someone in Ireland with a tourer or interstate would probably be a big help.

I was just thinking, Champion (Trikes) in California makes the best aftermarket fiberglass hardbags for Valks, bar none (Patriots).  They used to sell a heavy bar bag guard to protect those bags on a Valk, but are long discontinued, and impossible to find used.  I think they would be much easier to duplicate than the honda guards.

Champion has a rep for being hard to deal with or get replies from, if at all.  But an email to them asking for a copy of the design of those bars might get you something you could take to a welder.  Their guards were horizontal (more traditional) than the vertical style of the honda guards.  The other issue would be whether those bars would clear or interfere with the position you have your Givi's mounted at present.

It is too bad they were discontinued because everyone with a hardbag standard ought to want a pair.

They have a toll free number.

Super tight fit with Honda bags.

Oh! Someone posting my bags from my ACE Tourer before I replace/fixed them up!

I had this link, since you're in Europe (sortof), it might be good for you.

There are a lot (used to be) well priced hardware for the saddle bags, on ebay. Stick with the Valk ones, there is only the pipe clamps interchangeable between the Valk & ACE bags.

I know Jess, that's why I'm looking for just pics. If I could see what was behind the bags it might help. There are Valks around here alright; I've seen them; but not for over a year around my way.
I can see it now -
''Hiya bud. How's it goin'? Nice Valk. Any chance of taking those bags off so I can see what's behind them?''
I think the second word would most likely be ''off'' ...... roflmao

Anyway, I came across this in my search
http://siennabrickroad.com/2010/10/making-a-big-bike-fit-a-small-rider/

Take a look at the home made bars on the rear of that Valk.
THAT is what I'm envisiging!!!!

It's the bottom link, Hoser. The actual crash bar.
Take a look at the link I posted above. The owner of that Valk had rear crash bars made by her hubby.
Something similar is what I was thinking for my bike, but I would like to see how the OEM rear crash bars are mounted on the bike, so that I may be able to extrapolate something similar for myself.
I need to see the OEM mounting points, because if/when I get these bars made up, I want to bolt them to 'proper' points, and not risk damage to other parts of the bike should she decide to lie down. (Which has nearly happened once or twice)

Phil, I have just sent some pictures of my interstate/supervalk with the bags off in an email to your email address in your profile.  Along with some discussion of the issue.

Tank has it right, IN MULTIPLE PARTS, the OE bag guard/mounts mount to the rear peg plate and the the two fender strut bolts.  Not a very good solution for a home-fabricated rear guard setup.

A simple U guard mounted to the three-bolt rear peg mount plate would seem the way to go (like in your post above).... it needs to be long/wide enough to be the part that hits in a tip-over (not your givi bags).
