The Twilight Zone

I have a 99 I/S with just 10k on her. I ran about 500 miles this weekend and halfway through I felt a bad vibration. I pulled over and checked my air pressure and it was ok. I didn't see a weight that come off or a knot and I feel it in the bars and all over. It has fairly new tires.

Thanks for any help on what to check.

1st thing I'd do is get the front tire off the ground and rotate it looking for a rise in the tread.    If ya find nothing there do the rear.

Sounds like 1 of the 2 has got a baby in its belly.    You know a separation in the tread and tire body.

What kind of tires and what is the manufacture date on the tire?
Also, how many miles on them?

Thanks RJ, I did a visual on the road but since I'm home now I'll jack it up and see. The tires are 880 Metz and only about 2500 miles, but I don't know the manufacturer date. Where do I look for the date?

Could it be that you have two separate problems, one being the shifter and the other being the U-Joint???  First change the shifter back to the OEM and recheck for a viberation problem.  If it's gone, then you decide what you want to keep.  If it's still there, pull the rear tire off and drive shift out, check the U-joint for any looseness.  Lets us know what yo find.

It could be and I'm checking one at a time starting with the wheels. I wouldn't think or hope it's not the u joint at only 10K miles and it's been babied- no popping clutches, burn outs, etc. Smiley

Is the vibration under gear load only or does it happen rolling down the road when you pull the clutch in as well?
