 I made the move to the Darkside this past weekend. I put on a Falken tire. Done all the work myself other than mounting the tire. Ive put 250 miles on it so far and in my opinion as of right now i like it! Im running 40 pounds of pressure and feels great. My Last Avon lasted one weekend until i picked up a nail , so im giving this a whirl. Thanks for all the good info here and guidance.

I am convinced that Darkside saved us from some real ugly when deer crossed road in front of us at Inzane. Not going back to a mc tire until they stop making car tires

Hated mine....always felt like I was cornering on marbles...especially "two up". Went back to Avon Cobra and love it. I'll take lower mileage performance with better cornering over longer mileage any day. Just my opinion. I know lots of guys that enjoy the Darkside like you. Hope you always do....

marbles? I never have felt that. Just put a Falken on IS and its way easier than the Triple Tred I have on Standard. Road the Tail of Dragon and the Snake a couple times with the triple tred, and never felt I didnt have a grip...I feel safe in curves at the speed I take them, not the slowest not the fastest..I really love the traction of DS in rain and braking...but thats why they make more than one tire, different strokes for different folks..

Maybe you didn't have enough air in that c/t. I run a yokohama avid envigor 205/60/16 and I frankly can't tell it's a c/t. I ran several avon's and this c/t feels as good or better than the m/t. Glad you're liking your new tire.  cooldude

Just got my new yokohoma advid envigor yesturday to replace my falken. Love the falken but has started to rub the driveshaft cover when 2 up. The falken was a 65 series and the new yokohama is a 60.

Now have over 1000 miles on my yokohama avid envigor. I absolutely love it. I'm running 40 psi. Slammed on the brakes a week ago for a deer and the tire didn't lock up or slide. Rode two days on wet roads and it never slipped. Intentially red lined it in 1st gear at a light on a wet road, hard enough to make the front end light, and it still held firm. Great traction. Much safer in my opinion. Super smooth ride. Quiet. Added stabilty going slow. Easier to do a tight U-turn. Did I say how much I'm liking this tire? (No need to flame me, I do understand its not for everyone.)

Which Falken tire did you use?
Who did you purchase from?

I did not like the Good Year Triple Tread much at all. Seemed way to stiff at low speeds.
But I just loved the added traction on the rear wheel! I'm willing to try again with a more rounded tire, but when I looked up the Falken Tire I saw many many options. Which one did you get.

I'm not Mug, but the Falken I like is the Ziex512 in 205-65/16 size.   Liked it so much, I have 3 spares.   Smiley

I went 205/60-16. I did the nut cage mod with carriage bolts on both sides. My advise (from experience) would be, save yourself some time, and do the nut cage mod on both sides and do the carriage bolts right from the beginning. You should end up with plenty of room.

On my bike, one side of the nut cage is spot welded. I was able to break the spot weld. The other side was fully welded. I had to use a dremel cut off wheel to get the other side. I touched up the bare metal with a bit of paint.

I was able to find stainless carriage bolts and chrome nuts at ACE hardward. I used a dremel to cut the bolts to length.

In the end, the envigor isn't as wide as some of the other car tires. I ended up with plenty of clearance by the driveshaft, probably a good 1/4 inch.

:cooldude:Been Darkside on my standard since 2007. A GYTT I love the traction, I've come to understand other tires are a bit easier and closer to MC tires in ride. Anyway, we bought an IS last summer, wife wanted it and why argue with having two valks, lol The IS had avon cobras on it with some tread life left so I figured to wear them out first. We decided to do Inzane this year and I just knew I wanted a DS for the trip from Ohio. So I decided to give up the rest of the tread on the rear cobra. As it turned out, I too believe our lives possibly were saved because of the car tire. I've experienced high side exit and had bike almost land on me. years ago on 78 wing. I've seen others have real trouble hanging on to a bike when MC ties put them into a slide..yes, I know heavy foot on brake..i say who doesn't go heavy on the brake when something is about to hit you? I won't tell anyone they should do anything when it comes to motorcycles..but as long as i ride, i ride Darkside

I inherited my Valk from my Dad which already had a car tire on it. My advice for you is prepare yourself for the attention that darksiding brings with it. You will find both positive and negative attention. It's the negative attention that you need to watch out for. I have learned to not advertise my tire preference among a crowd. However most of the bad experiences I have had were simply people just walking by and noticing the tire. If they feel they must express their opinion simply listen and smile, no need to argue. Trust me their minds have already been made.  uglystupid2 Also you can look forward to getting loads of crap thrown at you if you have to take the bike in to be serviced at a shop.  tickedoff 80% of my experiences have been good  cooldude, just wanted to give you a heads up to the 20% that are not so much fun.  Sad

Joshcornkid, one of the Houston guys got a lecture from an independent motorcycle shop about the dangers of a CT on a bike.  This was our in the showroom of the shop in front of customers that were there.  I wasn't there, so don't know how bad it was, but I have only been there a couple of times since I heard about it.
I can sort of understand his attitude, because the majority of their business is selling tires and they don't sell CTs.
