My 99 standard has just rolled up to 60,000 miles. I'm the second owner. I went for a short ride yesterday, less than 100 miles. I noticed after she was warmed up idling was below normal and inconsistent. Never had that before - ever!

I'm running Iridium plugs and they have around 20,000 miles on them. Took them out this morning. They are not white anymore but not burnt looking either. What is the average plug life ??

The timing belt looks to be in good condition. The records the original owner passed on to me showed no record of the timing belt being replaced. But then again I'm not sure how long most guys run them?

Any input ?

Pulled the plugs each year checking the gap. Finally at 70k feeling guilty I put in new plugs.
Didn't notice any change but I did stop feeling guilty Smiley

As for the timing belts-INSPECT at 100000(one hundred thousand)miles. I replaced my timing belts cause they WEREN'T that spendy and I have the satisfaction of doing it correctly with the help of this board.  cooldude AND if you do screw up timing belt replacement it gets rather SPENDY in a hurry as these flat 6s are interference engines.  Lips Sealed Truth be told the belts I took off looked very good and are currently in my spare-do NOT throw away pile. Hope I was of some help to ya.  Wink RIDE SAFE.

First suspect would be the gasoline.  Poor quality, bottom of the tank, old stratified, etc.

Start the fix with a good dose of an additive and continue this regimen.

I would suggest, to not start to making adjustments while it is in this unsteady state. You may only make things worse.

Iridium plugs, good for 100K miles. Tip is very brittle, so be careful when checking the gape or setting them, even though you shouldn't have to do that.

For others, best price I found was on Advance Auto web site.
