Howdy from San Antonio to all my fellow Texans. Soon to be a Valkyrie owner. Made my 1st topic here - http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,58409.0.html and was advised to come over to the Texas board to request help of my fellow San Antonions.
So here I am asking for your assistance. Looking at 2 different Valkyries in the San Antonio area and was wondering if any of you local folks would be kind enough to help me with my purchase. I would appreciate all the help I can get.

TIA.

The Texas board is the place to be.  General Forum has a lot of motorcycle stuff, but it has a lot more non-motorcycle stuff that seems to be posted just to TICK ME OFF!!  Angry  I'm sorry - I digress.

Many Valk riders are in the San Antonio area.  The Dallas/Fort Worth group is pretty strong as is the Houston group.  Old Geezer just had a big gathering on Saturday in the San Antonio area and some of the Houston gang (and me) met up in Fayetteville, about 100 miles east of Austin on Sunday for breakfast.

Keep an eye out for any wrench parties.  Those are events where Valk riders get together and perform maintenance or outright repairs on each other's bikes at someone's home.  You won't learn any faster or better than you will by attending one of these get togethers.

In October, the Texas gang has a Hill Country ride-in in Fredericksburg.  This time, we'll be at the Peach Tree Inn & Suites from Oct 18-20th.  There's also the Gathering of the Fools in Houston on April Fools Weekend.  The GOTF is the second largest gathering of Valkyries outside of the Inzane event in July.  The fellowship here is incredible and the food is the best you will ever eat.  Hotglue and Flamingo Babe are the hosts and you should search the board to see some of the pictures from the event, which draws in Valks from all over the USA.

A Valkyrie is not a normal motorcycle - it is a dream, developed by the late Joe Boyd, that for a brief 6 years was the best production motorcycle cruiser in the market.  It remains one of the best on the road today, 10 years after its last production model rolled off the line.  You are joining a proud fraternity of riders as your Valkyrie adopts you.

And that is why you have to go and see them.  Both Valkyries are looking for new owners and you have to see which one likes you best.  And that's the one you get.  cooldude

Welcome to the insanity.

I have gone and seen both the bikes. I just have to ride both of them. The guy who owns the '97 is an auto mechanic by trade and he was kind enough to pull out the rear wheel so we could inspect the drive line and the rear splines. Both looked in perfect condition. He ended up moly-pasting them before putting back the tires.
TBH...I've been looking around for Valks for a couple of months now and I've yet to come across a Valk with the Majestic Purple/White color. Something nice about these 2 colors together. It does look good.

That was very courteous of him to show the splines.  That is the bikes Achilles Heel so knowing you have a good set right now if one big plus on that one.

That is a fine bike and a good buy.  Doc took good care of it.  I'm not sure, but I think he was looking at an Interstate and may have gotten one if he's selling the standard.

bpp--Are you limiting yourself to the standard only?  The Tourer is a beauty in motion.  Get the pics I sent you?  The '98 is the pearl white/maroon you speak off.

Blessings,

Woody

I bought my first Valk a few months ago and I'm loving it.   Here's a pic from this weekend.

Woody....yes I got your pics. sorry did not get a chance to call you this evening. I do like both the bikes you had for sale, but I like Doc's better (no offense). To answer your question.....yes, right now I'm more interested in getting a standard over a tourer.

Hey z10....I drive up to Midland quite often. My future in-laws live over there. The next trip to Midland (not for at least 2 months or unless the temps get down to the low 90's) is going to be on my Valk.

There is a breakfast gathering/ride 8am Saturday morning up here in DFW if you'd like to stop in and meet a few of the people who are replying to you.

This is the link to the location  http://goo.gl/maps/NWem2

You might even get a few to go with you to Terrell and visit Doc.

Thanks for the invite. However it looks like my trip is going to be postponed by a week.
