Had an AC power adapter put on the bike.  With my phone and iPod it worked great.

However with my Garmin Nuvi, using two different cables, it would revert back to the main screen (with the logo) and appear to be trying to sync up ( basically what it does when I hook it up to my PC).

Any idea how I might get my GPS working right while plugged in?  Side note: it worked fine when I unplugged it and ran it on battery power.  Also, works fine with the same USB cords in my car hooked up to the same GPS.

Do you mean you installed a power inverter to get 110VAC on your bike? If so, it's usually not a clean source of AC. Why wouldn't you put a 12VDC power port on the bike? All GPS's are made to run off 12VDC.

My Garmin does that now and again. Either you are crossing a time zone, or it needs new map downloads (mine did it several times over Lake Superior, half way across Canada). This summer's trip it happened, along with some Ipod issues, and it was because the power wire from the battery to my aux fuse panel broke loose. Check your connections. I have since soldered all of my extra connections...

With some GPS devices, when you hook them up via their proper 12V cable, two of the spare USB pins are 'jumpered', which tells the GPS to start in the normal Nav mode.  However, when you hook them up with a standard USB cable, those pins are unused, so some units think they are being connected to a PC, and start in a mode designed to share data with a PC.

Many of these units are no more than a Windows CE handheld PC device with a big touch screen, so the PC mode lets you see the entire file structure on the connected PC.  There's lots of info about this online.

I too was wondering about the AC adapter. If the unit works in your vehicle with the cables that don't work on the bike, I'm wondering if there is a polarity issue. Maybe swapping power leads on the bike power adapter. Just wondering though, I don't want to hurt the unit. My bank sent me a little nuvi40, it works good.

I'd check polarity with a voltmeter before swapping leads, just to be safe.

Have you tried something like this? Mine works well.

Don't recall mentioning 110v.  It is a 12v dual port.
Also noted, my other electronics charged and operated fine. Only the GPS gave me issue.  Did not appear to charge and would not stay on Nav screen while plugged in.

How long are you waiting for the sync to stop? My Garmin does that if I use an aftermarket connection. If I use the Garmin one the GPS boots right up, If I use a USB that happens to fit when it turns on it tries to sync to a PC. That sync lasts a few minutes but if I just leave it alone it turns on eventually and works fine. So I have one plug in my jeep, another in my wife's car, and one the bike. Easier than dragging the cable from vehicle to vehicle.

It was the reference to an AC power adaptor that threw us.

I rode a whole day.  It would cycle from start screen, the main screen and then back dark with the green sync line.  Probably cycled several dozen times.  The sync screen was very inconsistent.  Sometimes it would go 3-4 seconds and then back to the start screen. Other times the sync screen would stay up for 50 miles or so.

I put the GPS in my truck today with the same USB cord.  No issues at all.

All I can think of is that you might double check the polarity of your power port.

Using the OEM power set up it should work fine in your power port .  However, if you are using the usb port to mini usb port on the NUVI to power it .... it won't work, but will charge it up with that port, and act like you just plugged it into your PC.   Mine did that one time when I didn't have my power adapter and tried using a mini usb port.    Just not meant to power it via that port, only charge it.
