Last night I went double dark side on my standtourstate, I installed a D404 130/90-17 in the correct rotation.  The reason I went double dark is because I have been getting terrible mileage from the Metzlers, I love the tire, but I only got 7000 miles out of this last one and it was down to the cord in 3 places.  The left side showed significantly more wear than the right.  I'm running a GYTT on the rear.

I didn't have time to ride it last night and it was raining any way, so I'll have to evaluate it tonight.  Anyone else have similar experience with the Metz?

I'm thinking one of or the only reason I got 14454 miles out of a front Metz 880 was a defective Slime digital air pressure guage. When the guage indicated 42 P S I it was actually 62 or 63 P S I. Now on the flip side of that the defective guage was the reason my General D/S rear on lasted about 11 or 12000 miles-the higher pressure helped take out the center tread way too quickly.  Embarrassed Your thing on the short tire life of the Metz 880 is not the first time I've heard this particular complaint.  Lips Sealed And B T W-i'm running that same front tire you are currently AND in the proper rotation. The week prior to I-13 I hit rain going to my brothers house and the next day-yup in the rain again going to Ft Wayne In. to visit solo-1(Wayne). Really liked the way that tire performs in the rain.  cooldude And I apologize fer the long winded response.  Roll Eyes RIDE SAFE.

I'm running Metzler 880's on the front and average 12-13,000 miles.  I change them when they hit the wear bars or just before.  I like the way they handle and stick.  I mount them myself and use dyna beads for balance.

Running a Bridgestone Potenza 205/60/16 on the rear.  Have over 30,000 miles on it with plenty left to go.

Using air pressure recommended on the swing arm for both.

This combination works for me and I don't plan to change it.

My front Metz has well over 15k on it and has more left. I run 40psi in it, 36-38 psi in the c/t in back. I'll probably replace the front later this Fall, the rear looks barely used.

Thanks for the info, and the report on the D404.  I'm glad to hear is works well in the rain.

That is more what I expect, and I have been running metzlers for my last couple tires, I'll have to go through my records and see what I got on the last few.  BTW i've been running 41 psi and Dynabeads.

John, is your riding all in Florida?  I wonder if the straight smooth roads may be why your getting such high numbers?  I think my last couple of Metzlers were just super soft compound.

old2soon, the same happened to me. I checked my new rear Metz before I left on a trip and had 43 lbs in it. A few hundred miles later running about 80, I felt a bad vibration and pulled over. I checked the air on the rear and it showed 70 lbs and I used the same gauge! IDK what happened!! I know the pressure will increase about 5 lbs when hot....but 70?! Anyway when i get home and jack it up I see why it's vibrating....it's all humps and bumps!! I'll post a picture later -I've never seen anything like it. It don't look like it's separating just not round. No more Metz for me!! uglystupid2

Hey Skinhead, I'm runnin' the Metz 880 & gettin' 'bout 12K to 14K on one. (Darkside rear.)
Metz moved production of this tire for a while from Germany to Brazil. I've heard of some serious issues with the Brazilian ones!
Mine's stamped "Germany" right in the sidewall of the tire.
Tried the Avon Roadrider bias ply, in correct direction, & it cracked all around the sidewalls in less than 8K. Almost dropped us once!
Went straight back to the Metz! Bottom line, the mileage & price s**k, but I know they stick!
Peace, Whiskey.

I ran ME880 steel 150 fronts on both Interstates, about 4 each.  About 8-9K good miles is all I could ever get....... got one to 11+K but it was unsafe after 10K.  (fronts always at 44psi)

Am now pushing 7-8K on the AMC Roadrider rear 130 Avon up front, and it is still covered in tread with no Avon issues.  I am not completely happy with this tire, it is no match for the ME880 performance- wise, but at least it is lasting, which is why I got it.

If I do the rear on front again, it will probably be the 404 Dunny next time.

I could be wrong here.  Metz sells tires in Valk OE sizes in both bias and steel..... aren't the bias tires made in Brazil, and the steels made in Germany?

I had a Metz 880 on the front that came on the bike when I bought it, so I don't know what the mileage was.  I just know I hated that tire.  Bike handled crappy with it.  I thought it might have been the rear, but when I replaced that with a new Metz 880, nothing changed, still crappy.

I replaced the front with a rear D404 mounted reverse and the difference was amazing.  The bike holds the line and goes where I want it.

I then replaced the rear Metz with a BFGoodrich G-force.  Cool tire, holds well, but handles way different than M/T.

Some buddies & I got caught in major rain on I-90 last Friday night, coming back from the drag races in Lebanon Valley NY.

Double dark side handled the steady rain, with spot downpours, just fine.  Cruised at about 70 mph in the steady light rain and down to 60 mph in the downpour.  No problems.

I have about 6K miles on the one I installed in May.  It's beginning to show some wear in the center, but has lots of meat left.

It's my first non-Avon front.

Been running metz for over 10 yrs. My 2nd to last got 22k out of it. I just changed the front yesterday and got close to 20k on it. I'm having wobble issues and fig it was the tire. Ended up putting a bridgestone on the front yesterday. Not sure how it will be but Kit has them all the way around and likes them. Service guys said he would do bridgestones before metz.
