Bought a '98 Valk Standard new in 2002. Just rolled over 14K km and had a rear tire thump. Sure enough the back tire had delaminated inside. Hopefully the Venom is all that has been reported to be!

Actually, the Venoms were discontinued and replaced with the Cobras, which I have on my bike and like them.  They actually wore faster than the Venoms though.  And some people have had issues with these tires as well.  Seems no tire is perfect. Roll Eyes

If that was the oem tire it's little wonder that it came apart.  It was 11 or 12 years old.  Check them date codes boys and girls, old tires are ticking time bombs.   Smiley

Actually bought the last Venom from my local dealer a couple of years ago on sale. I like to plan ahead.

Stupid Dunlops were coming apart when they were new. Didn't know this until very recently. I personally think the age thing is very overblown. A well cared for old tire is not automatically going to blow.

Might be overblown (over reported) but after 30 years in the tire business I can say that most of the separations that I have seen have been on tires older than 6 years (not counting tires that have been recalled).  Its not automatic and I see lots of old tires that have no problems at all.  The materials that tires are made of start to deteriorate as soon as the tire comes out of the mold.  I have seen spare tires that have never been on the road come apart in the trunk of the car.  I have even used tires that have been to old to sell on my own car.  Not my wife's, car MY car.  But never on my bike   Smiley
