So I finally worked the bugs out of sending my email introductions to the full list of VRCC members in Illinois (had to send them 10 at a time to not be flagged as spam, and there are over 1000 emails on the list !). Then came all the "Undeliverable" replies (over half!!!). But all in all, I am pleased wih the replies I have received. Some members replied that they sold their Valk (one laments selling it, as he said it was the best bike he ever owned). Others offered well wishes and are glad to see some correspondence. I will try to put together a ride or a wrench party before the end of this season, so watch your emails!

As part of the email introduction, I attached a link to an online survey I created getting more info about the Illinois VRCC members and asking about their riding and get together preferences. So far 44 people have responded. THAT IS ALMOST 10%!!! (of the "good" email addresses), so I am happy to see the responses. If you haven't replied back or taken the survey, please consider doing so. The more I can learn about what Illinois Valk riders want, the better suited I can be in trying to make it happen.

I sent out an email yesterday to all the Illinois email addresses in the VRCC database (I am the new IL state rep and wanted to introduce myself).

Can you please confirm that you received it?

Thanks

Nico

I hope you have better luck than I did Nico. I got the NE Indiana rep job from Fudgie a few years back. Introduced myself to all the members that I got from Brian. I got maybe 6 messages back. Have tried to get ride together. No interest, I gave up. Maybe I will try again someday......Good luck......

I hope so too. I have been National President of a couple organizations as well as Board member for a couple condo associations and know from experience that sometimes the response you get from these types of "mass" notifications is less than enthusiastic. And it can be disheartening. But, I am willing to make the effort, and if I even get one reply back and have another valk rider in IL to meet and ride with, at least something good will have come from it.

NICO ,  I have not looked at the E-mails yet. You have rubbed elbows with DA PREZ .  I do live nearby and am planning a wrench party when some things settle
down .  Will contact you.

The last I knew Scott was having trouble with the mass email portion of this site and they were not going out. Hopefully that will be fixed soon. Congrats Nico.  cooldude

Hi Nico: Appreciate the heads up on your new status as state rep. I live in Belvidere, IL. I would be interested in some rides and a wrenching party was mentioned in a response on this thread. Always interested in keeping the bike in top form and meeting people who can learn me new stuff.
We have some great weather ahead in ILL. Hope to meet you sometime.

If you're attempting to use the VRCC mass email tool, it does not work, because the major email servers have labelled us as spammers (even though people signed up to receive emails), so they block our emails.  If you are just using the email list, it is probably outdated, because people fail to update their info on the VRCC site.  Everyone should update their info, if they change email addresses.

Here is the link to check your information and update it, if necessary:

Thanks for that info Connie.    I had kind of visioned that the mass email site was not working properly.

Can we contact the server provider and ask them to allow our VRCC site to pass as non spammer?

Way back when I was still working I had to do that with one of our Iowa Government sites.    They authorized us and last I knew it was still being allowed.

Just a thought.

It's not being blocked on our end, it's blocked on the receiver's end.  The first couple of times that it happened, we went through the arduous process of getting taken off spam lists of the big name email sites.  But then the next time an email got sent, we went right back to being blocked.  Besides that, they don't notify us that we are being blocked, so we don't even know for sure which ones block us... the big ones we know, but there are so many, we can't possibly keep up.

Thanks for all the congratulations and well wishes.

As for the intro email, I will be sending it out from my personal email in smaller bundles, so as not to prompt a "spam" filtering. I tried to send a mass email to all Illinois members through my own email and it would not send due to the system thinking it was spam.

Hopefully I will be able to send out in groups of 20 or more, if not, it could be a long night!!!

Nico I was told to keep it under 10 at a time. Over 10 they may still consider it spam.

I have started sending my email introduction out to all the VRCC members listed for Illinois. I have had to do this 15 emails at a time, so as not to trip a spam filter. And with over 1000 Illinois members, this will take a while.

Please read my email, fill out the questionnare attachment and let me know when you receive the email.

Thanks,
