Went to see my older brother today, lives about a hunnert miles away. to wish him a happy 70th birthday and take him out for lunch. Really had a nice time gabbing and a decent meal to boot. On the way home I took a little used highway with a long level stretch of smooth two lane blacktop. Running about 75, enjoying a nice ride. Saw another brand bike pull out from a side road behind me. I was running about 10 mph over the posted limit and he was about the same behind me. All of a sudden he took off and blasted by me WOT and held it. His straight pipes kinda startled me as he went by, so for some reason I went WOT and caught up beside him, about 105 mph. He was hugging the tank and peeking over at me. I went ahead and passed and pulled back in, and backed off to about 80. I'll be damn'ed if he didn't do it again! So I Did too, except I just kept going to about 120, and watched him fade. Slowed back down to 75 and he came up beside me again. I just waved and pointed to my bike and thumped my chest. I must be going nuts in my old age. Kinda fun though. Hoser

Be careful out there, you don't know what of rider you might encounter. Some guys get a bike for the first of there life and a week later they are doing 100+ with no experience.

Couple of weeks ago rode with a couple of friends. One on a GS Adventure. The other on a 600 Yammie sports bike. Oh boy did he suffer. Not enough stops and he's the wrong side of 40. Aching wrists etc.
At the end of the day cruising down the 4 lane for the last 20 miles he wasped by me flat on the gas tank.
Once he moved into the right lane I slowly/deliberately pulled up next to him with my feet on the ST1300 highway pegs, windshield fully up and waved at him with left hand.
Within a couple of days he sold the bike. He still has his HD Rocker which is a good looking no ground clearance bike. He's in the market for a large capacity dual sport.

Played tag like that with a blonde in a Mercedes supercar on the PA turnpike for about 40 miles last year. She'd have me in the straights, but I'd reel her in and pass in the curves. Traffic was light and the coppers were nowhere in sight. Generally don't trust women drivers but she was rock steady in her lane and moving thru traffic, as well as hot (and no youngster). We exchanged smiles, but nothing else.
It is fun (only with a competent competitor and a safe road), and I'd like to do it more often, but the awards and prizes for 100-120 if observed by the referees are unpleasant and damn expensive.

I'm glad that I haven't been tempted lately.
I'm sure that this Vtwin, Vstrom 1000, will reel in a few.
What i don't need is to reel in is a 100 plus award. My kids wouldn't let me get over it.
Small print. I've never had a speeding ticket. I generally pick my time and place to hit the ton.

They say there is no substitute for displacement. 2000cc even in a vtwin is still more than 1520cc or even 1832cc goldwing engines. I have heard though and you would know better I bet that the vulcan 2000cc is not any faster say in 1/4 mile than a similar v-twin correct say even vulcan 1700? Top end am sure being larger cc's will take over though.

I ain't buyin' it. It might be close enough to come down to rider skill but to won't "spank a Valkyrie like a 5 year old in a a K-Mart" Best 1/4 mile I found in tests for Kawasaki was mid-12's.

I'M thinking Joe meant top end overall speed not 1/4 mile times. Would only make sense a 1832cc goldwing would top end higher than a 1520cc goldwing/Valk as a 2000cc Vulcan would top end speed over a 1832cc goldwing.
Don't care to find out one way or the other. I haven't gone over 85 mph on my VAlk and don't care to really don't see the need for that much more speed.
Same as those ATVer's buying a 1000cc can am that does 100 mph vs. my 500cc top speed 63 mph just to say I have the baddest and biggest. Why do you really want to and have the need for 100 mph in any ATV unless into drag racing I guess?

Hmmm, I kind of admire that. Kind of like having money but, not flaunting it. Then again, it's really hard to hide money. I really try to keep my fat lady within 7 or so of the posted speed limit and she's only seen triple digits once or twice since I got her. Only because I reign her in, she's more than capable but though I may feel the need for speed, I can't afford to be writing checks my body (and checking account) can't cash. Then again, I'm not in Kansas anymore.

When MGM was a 2 wheeled rig, and I had a twinkie WOT go out around me, I'd drop a gear and run it up almost to the rev limiter, get beside them and shift into 5th.
You could almost see the brake lights come on on the pavement.
I did that to my nephew who has a HD dresser once. He won't ride with me no more.
He said that was the embarrassed he had ever been on a motor.
