Hey guys I have owned 3 Valkyries, all stock no tinkering.

The first two were a 2000 and 2001 standard. The one I have now is a 1998 Tourer. I ride them all about the same.

The first two I would be sputtering and need to turn to reserve at 125-130 miles on the odometer. I have gone over a 150 on the current bike and have yet to hit reserve.

I was curious if the reserve actually works.......

What do you think? Mileage is in the low 30's/gallon.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Yea it will. My 98 Tourer starts to sputter at 155 2up, and 65 mph. Mine is not stock and I have a pingel also. I get 32 mpg.

I'd carry a can of gas and run it to reserve and see if the petcock is working properly.

May just be the bike.  I get the worst mileage of any Interstate I have ever seen.  JP has been all over it and nothing has helped with the mileage.  When we were riding up north, I always took 1/2 gallon (at one time almost a gallon) or better than he did.  I got worse mileage than Bird/Moonshine riding two up with luggage...Always have gotten worse mileage than others - that is why I am the one who picks the gas stops - I will go on reserve before anyone else.  Always have - I reckon, always will.

I agree, check you petcock to make sure you are not sucking off reserve and if not, man, enjoy the mileage!!!!  cooldude

Seriously, I have done EVERYTHING I can think of to up my mileage - but no go.  Traveler is just a thirsty Interstate I reckon.  Heck, I just figure it is about time for a smoke break anyway.....My petcock has been rebuilt, carbs synched.....no matter what I have tried, I just can't get the mileage that others do....Like I said, it is time for a pee break and a smoke anyway.... my '98 standard/tourer gets consistent 37 mpg on the highway. It has Viking pipes, 6-degree TW, K&N filter and #38 slows.

One disclaimer...it does so if I keep the RPM's mainly below 3,000 with an occasional rip up to 4,000

My interstate gets better than my tourer, cause my wife is usually on the back.  I get gas when the guage starts to flash, 220 to 240 miles.  About 150 on the standard.  I really like that humongus tank on the interstate.  cooldude hoser

My 02 STD gets about 27 MPG when I am commuting and or on the interstate.  If I ride two up, and sight seeing I have gotten as good as 35.

But alone... I am a pretty consistent 27 or 28.  That puts me on reserve at 120 - 126 on the ODO.

I get between 27mpg-37mpg, depending on the type of riding. I actually get better milage two up with gear, because I'm riding mellow with the wife on the back and keeping the tach. down in the safety zone.  Solo riding with other Valks, well that's another story Wink

98 Tourer, stock, most riding two up on last three tanks, under 3,000 RPM`s, 38 to 41 MPG.  Grin I`ll take it.
