Hopkins 46255 Power Taillight Converter is what I use. The powered model eliminates the risk of a fault in the trailer wiring taking out your bike lights. ~$37 on Amazon.

This is a great spot to put it. It's easy to reach the wires underneath the right cover and to route the trailer harness to the back.
