Hello,

Not sure if this is a Tech Board question, so I apologize in advance.  But has anyone used the OEM grips with these heated elements?

If so, did you trim, or notch out, the chrome edge, i.e. where it meets the switch housing?

Note: I already have these heated elements so not interested in the "all-in-one" heated grips.   Smiley

Thanks,

  Rich

I used something similar.  They worked well, but did not last very long (1 season).  I am now using heavy duty block warmers.

As to your question, you shouldn't need to notch anything.  I roll the heater around the grip (the narrow direction) between the chrome pieces so that the wiring is under the grip.  You'll feel it and know it is there, but it is not a big deal.

I wrap bicycle inner tubing over the heaters to hold them in place.  Looks okay.

Thanks BlueValk.  Not sure I understand.  Did you put the heated element on top of the OEM grip and cover it with bike tube?

Is that the grip or the bike tube rolled back?

Yes, they are rolled on top of the OEM grips.  And yes, that is the inner tube rolled back.

Ok, thanks.  I'll keep that solution in mind.  I'm still curious though if anyone put them under the grips and how they dealt with the chrome trim.  Smiley

I picked up some grip heaters from an ATV shop that worked for several years. They went under the OEM grips and I didn't have to notch the chrome. They came with a toggle switch with a high, off and low setting.

Thanks cutter.  So, you just left a gap between the wires and the chrome trim?

Sorry, I meant to say "a gap for the wires between the chrome trim and switch housing?"

What Cutter said sounds like what came on my Valk when I got her. Yeah, there's a gap between the Chrome Trim and the Switch Housing, just wide enough for the wire, but it's only maybe 3/16". Can't hardly notice it unless your looking for it. Got the toggle switch mounted in my center cover under the seat. Low, off, high.

What Miscott said. I left a little bigger loop ( if that's what you'ld call it) on the throttle side so it wouldn't bind when I twisted that grip.  2funny Then I just zip tied it to the rest of the cables.
