My ignition was giving me trouble, and I put in a new key with sharp edges and pulled the guts out of it. I went ahead and ordered a new lockset from HDL, How difficult is it to get the tumblers out of the tree ,tank, and seat release. It should be delivered Wednesday.

I got a new lock set for my Tourer from HDL. I haven't installed any of the parts yet, but mine came with a whole new gas cap, that part should be easy. I don't look forward to fumbling around with the seat lock, though.

The seat lock is a piece of cake. Remove the left side seat cover, one or two bolts to loosen the center cover, and a clip to hold the lock cylinder. Just pay attention to how the cable is put in there. Not difficult, but it's hard to see in there sometimes.

I've never had the center cover off, or messed with anything behind, it, I figured it would be a drag... I'm guessing the bag cylinders will not be hard to replace, anyone done that? -Mike

Don't bother taking it all the way off. Just remove the bolts and work with it (mostly) in place. When you replace the center cover, pay attention to the tab on the bottom. It fits into a elongated oval grommet buried deep in there. It's not obvious, but it obviously fits better when you seat that tab properly. Can't help with the bag locks, but I don't imagine that's tough either.

Well all the locks are replaced, except the tree lock. It is help in with two phillips screws that are not accessible with the forks on the bike. The seat lock was a little tricky, its tight in there.
In retrospect, I should have suggested that you take the petcock handle off to make it easier. I don't have the stock, so I didn't think about it. That probably would have made life easier. Are you going to change the tree lock later, or just leave it? I've never looked for those screws, but it doesn't surprise me. If it was easy to remove, what would be the good?

Are you going to change the tree lock later, or just leave it? I will probably get around to it eventually. I rarely use it. I had the tank off already to change the ignition switch so the petcock extension was out of the way. I just got some big old hands, and had to get some help from Tinkerbell to get it done.

Glad you got it done, I don't guess I was even aware the Valks had a fork lock. Guess that tells you how many times I've used it. Be safe on your trip we plan on being in Greeley next week visiting In-Laws Hope to take 1 day to come to Frisco. Still waiting on an answer if I need to preregister or can do it there. I guess if I have to preregister I will have to decide which day to come.
