Crank crank crank, like a ratchet. That's the sound I hear coming from somewhere in the front of the bike. It seems to happen under 2,500 RPMs. If I didn't know better I'd think it was a speedometer gear or such but no, the speedometer reads fine and the needle doesn't shake. It only happens while riding. Any ideas?

wish I could hear it, not a lot of information to go on..... when you say " It only happens while riding." does that mean only while moving??

Yes, only when moving and (it seems) only at 2,500 RPM or below.

No, no changes except for the chrome radiator cover installed this spring. I have even reached forward while the noise was happening to see if it was the cover vibrating. It wasn't.

From what you have provided...
Still look at the speedo cable. It can still work and make noise. Probably just before it breaks.
Could you have picked up a small screw or object in the front tire? Clicking every revolution.
There is a rubber pad on either side inside the front fenders. Maybe one has come loose and is slapping the tire making a sharp noise. Mine sounded more like a tick tick tick.
Can't see it being the brakes. But does it continue to make the clicking when you apply the brake?
Get another set of ears and ride by them to make sure the sound is coming from the front. Some times it gets pretty deceiving.
Front bearing? But you'd likely would have more information for us if that were the case. Vibrations, handling issues, etc. But you just have a click.

The belts are toothed and may be able to make a sound like you are describing,,, I Know, does not fit the picture you drew or the pattern you described at all,, still, maybe under a certain load...... You may want to pull the cover just to take a look.

If the belts make a noise like that, I guarantee the noise would immediately stop. (After the clattering and banging sound). But wouldn't hurt to check the tensioners for a bad bearing. Also could be a front wheel bearing, and it would not hurt to check. My rear bearing would make a screeching noise at slow speeds before I found the problem. It did not vibrate, or make noise except at slow speeds.

I'm thinking playing card in the spokes of your bicycle wheel when you were a kid....... If something were backed off or otherwise loose in the belt case, and could contact the ribbed part of one of the belts under certain conditions....... could something like this be responsible for your sound? Sure would like to hear it.

I strapped my iPhone to my GPS mount with fat rubber bands and recorded it. Problem is all I can hear is wind noise. I'll try again tomorrow at lower speed.

From what I understand there is a chain driving the oil pump. I hear mine at 2500 rpm's and below. Nothing you can do about it.

Feel the front rotors and see if there is any scraping areas. You may have hit a bump which might have tweeked the front forks.

Cant tell from the recording weather it is synced with the engine RPM or overall speed, but I guess if it were mine I would start with the front wheel, basically the things Moonshot mentioned,,, spedo cable/drive, tire, inner fender,,, I would also look at the brakes...... doesn't sound serious, but it would bug me until I found it.

From the sound, I'd say a speedo cable is frayed somewhere along the line internally. Possibly the gearing in the cable at the end. But I'd say sounds like a speedo cable. Still works but I think the cable likely broke a strand or strands inside and its making contact with the sheathing inside.
It doesn't sync with the motor, it syncs with the speed of the bike/rotation of tires. When you go fast enough, it still makes the sound, but the wind noise and engine noise drowns it out.
I had one go out once. Sounded like that too.
Disconnect the cable at the wheel and zip tie it somewhere out of the way and then see if the sound is still there when you ride it. You'll know pretty quick.
