There is nice long pieces of chrome that goes from the end of the header to the tips (I dont have truck stacks) that has 2 straps to hold it in place.

I noticed a gap between the front piece and this section of the exhaust when I did the final drive oil change saturday

Apparently BOTH straps are broken on the right side and I think 1 on the left  I can rotate the cover by hand

How in the blazes do I fix this or should I just get truck stacks and be done with it  How much are truck stacks that would go to the end of the interstate bags ? What length  Anyone selling any in original condition and will they drone (piggies cut)

Would hate for the chrome pieces (they are really just covers) to fall off the bike next time I hit a few hundred potholes and expansion joints on the way to work

Lots of questions for a monday

Thanks

I have a set, but personally I would do the truck stacks, they look a lot better.

I had this also happen. Bought a new pair. Price was one arm, and both legs. Next time (yup, happened again, few yrs later), i went the truck stack route (Airflo). Cheaper. Looks better. I´ll never go back to the OE covers.

Before you go buying anything, measure the inside diameter of the pipe.

Chrome pieces with 2 straps each doesn't sound like stock exhaust.  Sounds like they are aftermarket and maybe are 5" ones.

Got a picture of them you can post?  If so do it.........  Please.

Do they look like Hollywood's exhaust?   Those are not stock

Thanks RJ but these are the stock items

Here is the diagram which shows the bands and the covers

http://www.hdlparts.com/fiche_section_detail.asp?section=148618&category=Motorcycles&make=Honda&year=2000&fveh=3474

The bands may be gone but the piece of metal that attached to the cover itself seems to have broken off also

What length truck stacks will just clear the bags  Would love to see some pics and who did you get em from  Maybe I should start a new thread

In the pic if you look under the rear boards that is where the gap I found is

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

36" goes by the bags about 3 or 4 inches, I believe. Somewhere close. Can't find my pix.
