Hi Everybody:

I'm new to this forum and to Valkyrie ownership. I picked up a "barn find" 2000 standard that hadn't run in ~five years. I put a new battery in, new front tire, took the carburettors and fuel petcock apart, cleaned everything, and it's on the road now.

I have a question only other Valkyrie riders can answer, though. This bike has a very heavy throttle -- not just a little bit but a real wrist-murderer. Is that something these bikes are known for or does mine need more surgery?

Thanks for any advice you can offer,

Kate

It shouldn't take more effort than on a typical motorcycle to twist the throttle, and it should snap back on its own with the bars turned left/centre/right.

Thanks for that. It's much heavier than anything I've ever ridden, so I'm guessing I need to double-check the routing and lube the cables. Thanks!

By the way - Welcome aboard!
Always nice to see a gal riding a Valkyrie ! Wish I could get my g'friend to climb on mine and ride it. She already rides the Magna and has a Vstar 1100. Would consider a second Valk if she would.

Welcome aboard..it's your turn to buy the donuts, hehe.

If you don't have the stock risers on your bike, you might find a previous owner may have re-routed the cables behind the forks to effectively increase the reach of them, unfortunately that causes a pretty sever bend at the front of the tank. This bend increases the wear on the inner sleeve and will lead to binding. If that's been done you only choice is to replace the cables, preferably with longer ones.

Welcome to the asylum Motomuffin!  Smiley You are going to love your Valk. If the throttle felt good before the carbs were cleaned up, you probably do have a routing problem. It's a tight fit where they connect.
