Hoping to get some advice. My 1999 Valkyrie was towed to the Honda dealership last week with an awful sounding noise coming from the shifter area. Hond dealer called me today to tell me that my Valkyrie needs a new Gear Assembly Final (sometimes called a Differential). I must admit, I am not too well versed on this. Dealer wants $1,500 for the part and $450 in labor.

Any advice anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and ride safely!

Good used final drive runs around $500, I would get some one local to look at it, might possibly be the drive shaft spline. A lot cheaper repair.

Yes, take Grumpy's advice, please don't leave it up to the dealer. That will cost way more than it should. Most of the members here on this board know more about these bikes than a dozen of the dealer's mechanics put together. Go to your profile and add your location, that helps us know where you are and how close somebody might be that can lend a hand. It's worth hundreds of dollars to you.

FWIW, I recently sold a final drive ass'y. for $400, everything was in great condition. Don't take the dealer's offer. There's three on Ebay right now for just under $500, two have the drive shaft with it.

Possibly a u-joint.? Rescue your bike from the "stealer" and follow the advise given above of identifying someone in your area to help carry off the "fix".
