Got on yesterday and found my speedometer – along with the odometer – weren’t working.  Tinkered around a little. Nothing seemed broken or loose. Looks like a straightforward repair/replacement on the cable. Before I order a new cable (I know, they’re not expensive) has anyone had their speedo just stop working? I’m assuming it’s a cable. Anyone? Thanks! (KW)

You should be able to remove the bottom end of the cable housing from the sender down on the bottom left side of the front wheel. If the cable is broken you'll get two or more pieces to slide out the bottom. If it doesn't come out, it may be broken and jammed internally in the housing. Remove the back of the speedo cover, remember the trip meter knob has to come off first. Then unscrew the cable housing on the back and see what's going on in there. The cable should literally drop/slide out.

If the trip meter knob won't come off, you will end up cutting that small section of the speedo cover, making a slot to allow you to slide the cover off. Then just cut a small piece of silver tape and apply it on the speedo in that spot. When you put the cover back on you'll never see it.

The "along with the odometer" bothers me.

What model of Valkyrie?

Sounds more electrical than speedo cable.

Use a small (1/8) or so phillips head screwdriver to remove the screw holding the odometer knob. Maybe a jewelers screwdriver, that knob shouldn't be hard to remove.
If you have a Standard or Tourer it's the cable, an Interstate and it's electrical.

It is probably the cable, but if the cable is in one piece, check the shaft on the speedo drive on the front wheel.  If you had the cable out recently, it is easy to install the cable incorrectly and break the flat off the drive.  Mine lasted around the block.  Won't make that mistake again.
