Well, i exchanged a few emails with the guy who had a standard and an IS for sale. Both had salvage titles, both were wrecked. He refused to sell me both bikes as complete as they are. He also refused to sell me the standard with a gas tank. His last offer was both bikes with one set of wheels, no tanks and of course all the plastic is gone from the IS due to crash. No bags, no brackets. Just motors and frames for more money than would be worth to fix up either or both.
I gave up because my intention was to put both bikes back on the road, not one. I already have a spare motor, spare carbs, etc. Dont need more. It was very upsetting. I felt that he was not trying to find a home for these with someone who would restore them but was just trying to make as much money as possible. Its his junk, not mine. But that is what it all is......junk. Both bikes wrecked and forgotten. Rust and filth everywhere. If anyone buys those tanks, you better be prepared for lining them because the amount of rust i saw in the pics might indicate that the tanks arent any better than the rest of it. Its very sad to see this but, it is what it is. I hope he sells his stuff for him, just beware if you buy those tanks...

Thank you, Dogg, for what you've done.

There are a variety mindsets regarding Valkyries.  I prefer ones similar to yours and mine looking for people for Valkyries rather than putting another couple on the usta-been pile.

Is this the fellow that posted an ad for a wrecked IS and a very rusty standard awhile back?

Yes, BF, that him. No matter what i said, it didnt matter. Its just a shame. Willow, if i had the money, id buy as many fixable valks as possible. Just to keep them on the road. But i am poor so, can only do what i can.

From the pictures i have, i dont see much usable. They look like they were forgotten about outside in a shed for a few years. But they will probably run with lots of carb work but, still...it just aint right...

While I certainly agree that every salvageable Valkyrie should be returned the road and those that aren't should be salvaged for what can be saved, the classifieds are full of folks who want to get every dime they can out of what they are selling.     I've put a few ads in the classifieds and refused several offers because the offers weren't what I thought the value was.    I have received some good deals from fellow Valkyrie riders and believe I have passed a few on but, the bottom line is, if the seller and the potential buyer can't agree a price then a sale isn't going to happen.

I'm not saying the seller in this case isn't trying to make a bundle off of what he has but, that doesn't mean the buyer isn't trying to get a real deal or steal on what's being offered.     No offense to either party intended but, it is what it is.    I see stuff in our own classifies I'd like to get all the time but, they are either out of my reach or, over priced in my opinion.

What can ya do?   Supply and Demand.   Logistics and transportation costs drive up the price.   And yes, there is that greed factor.    I have other things I need to do with what little "play" money I have but, if I'm going to offer some of the Valkyrie things that I currently have that are "extra", I'm going to ask for what I think they are worth.   Some folks might not agree with what I'm asking.    I have put a few items out there in the past and quickly received PMs from other folks telling me what I was trying to sell was severely over and under priced.   All I can say is Caveat Emptor.

If the price is too high for one, it may or may not be too high for another.   Only the market can dictate the value.

Br, im not saying that he is over priced, nor saying he is selling absolutely worthless stuff for alot! Just saying considering the condition, i gave him a reasonable offer for both bikes as they are but he couldnt agree. It is what it is.
Maybe i am a bit more "passioate" than most so, i believe that just about every valkyrie is worth repairing. Both of these bikes make good candidates for rebuilding. They are his property, he can do what he wants. But he came on in his original post with language that seemed as tho he wanted to sell them to get rid of them. Then, as the way i read it, it turned into more of parts lists and he had no interest in repairing them. I made my offer, actually made 3 reasonable offers to no avail.

Punisher I just did that the other day when I was looking at a 39 Chev Coupe to replace I one I lost in my garage fire several years ago.     I invested the $$$$ the Insurance company gave me and it has sure grown over the last 10 years.   I need to find me another Coupe, even if I have to build it up again as a nice street rod.    I know a lot of changes I'd make in the under carriage on it.

Dogg,
Understood.   All I can say is this, you may be right about him wanting to part the bikes out.    Generally speaking, most vehicles, Valkyries included, are worth a whole lot more in parts than they are as a whole.    I actually wish I had the skills you obviously have so, I could rebuild one.    But, I doubt that's ever gonna happen.   I'm lucky my fat lady lets me ride her, I'm not about to ask her to let me turn a wrench on her.   Wink
