Looking at the Memphis Batwing, but not sure about the height of the windshield. I now have a 17" Clearview that I can look over. Want the same thing with the Batwing. Any ideas? Or is there a better way to go? I really don't want to do any mods to the bike if possible.
Thanks. Billyboy

Billy, I have a batwing on my '97 and have 2 different windscreens; one is a regular 12" normal shield and second is a 9" 'spoiler' which is the one with the kick-up at the top. I had to cut the 12" down about an inch because it topped out just at my line of vision and I use it when I'm touring and might expect rain. The spoiler is on around town and I can see over it by a few inches and I like the wind deflection it provides. We just got back from St. Augustine, where we stayed for Biketoberfest and had the spoiler on and it did extremely well. I was well pleased with how it moved the air around with no buffeting and I see better over it than through. I bought one while we were there and had Memphis Shades mount one on my wife's '99 FatBoy. She wasn't sure how she would like it after riding behind her windshield for 10 years, but by the time we got home, she was an owner and convinced that it was the right move. Now, it's on to paint.
I was at Terry and Sherry's and I know that there was another with a batwing on it; Sherrie's yellow and black. So, there's a few around. Happy to answer any questions that come up.

To be honest Larue, I'm not sure if my bike came with the stock windshield. It came with a windshield made by the company that turned into Memphis Shades, so the hardware was much the same. Maybe that was the stock shield offered. I used new hardware to mount the batwing fairing and it was quick release. The new stuff mounted an inch above where the original windshield mounted, so all I had to do when I was ready to paint, was take the fairing off and re-mount the windshield for a week or so.
Though I still have that option, once the batwing came back from paint, it hasn't come off, except for service. It goes right back on. I haven't used the clear windshield in a few years. One of the things that I like about the batwing is its light weight. Most fairings have an inner and outer shell; for electronics and speakers and such. This has none of that. I rarely play music while I'm riding. Any music I've ever needed comes through ear buds from an MP3 player.

Woodman; I would like to see your setup and see where I can go from there. Maybe on a ride soon. I'm free most any day so maybe we could meet up somewhere around your area if you want. Thanks

Sherrie and I both Have Batwing Fairings on our Valkyrie's. Sherrie's is a Memphis Shades,Quick Release, Batwing Fairing with a 12" Shield . And I have a Harley Batwing Fairing with a 10" Shield on my 2000 Tourer. mine also mounts to the Original Windshield Mount at the Headlight and onto the Handlebars with Chrome Clamps.

The OEM windshield mounting hardware and the mounting hardware for a Memphis Shades fairing (or their Memlphis Shades windshield) are two totally different animals and are not compatible with each other. However, anything can be made to fit with enough money, tools and perhaps a machine shop.

The Memphis Shades Batwing has its Own Separate Mounts that mount onto the Fork Tubes and is Quick Release so that the Batwing can easily be Removed. The Real Difference to me is that with the Memphis Batwing I can't put a Stereo and Speakers in it, and with the Harley Batwing I can purchase the inner Fairing and Install a Full Blown Stereo if I decide to.

Looked at Thewoodmans Batwing this am and it looks like you have to at least remove the top bracket for the OEM shield. But like he said; "you will probably not go back." I guess I could sell it and recoop some of the cost. Thanks Woody for taking the time.
