Every year Chicago has festivals along the lakefront; Blues Fest, Taste of Chicago, Venetian Night and Jazz Fest to name the major ones. This year I took a few pictures while at Taste of Chicago and here they are.

Dodging traffic under the 'El' ..

Welcome to the Taste

Wow, does that bring back memories!!  I use to work for a restaurant called the Zephyr.  It was an ice-cream parlor on 1777 Wilson Ave. and they use to have a booth at the taste!  It was actually a fun job when I was in college.

Brought my wife down there after we got married, small town girl seeing the big city!  Now that’s a story in it’s own…..

Thanks ChromeDome!

For 22 years my office was in the Mid Continental Building on Wabash between Adams and Monroe across from the Palmer House.  I attended the fest in Grant Park many years.  We had a boat on the Little Cal river and also participated in the Venitian Night floating parade of decorated boats.  Those were great times.  However in the morning walking from the IC commuter train to the office we would smell the garbage from the night before.  That left a bit to be desired.

I remember one year I walked down to Monroe harbor during lunch to watch the preparations and witnessed a 50+ foot steel hulled cruiser coming in to the harbor.  As I watch, instead of turning, into the area where the tour boats dock, the captian was not on the bridge, the boat ran into the side wall of the pier.  It climbed up about three feet then slid back down ripping the hull as it went back down into the water.  Talk about a lot of people scrambling around.

Did they move the fest to Navy Pier??  Who were the main acts on stage this year?

Thanks for the photo's.

Nope ... it is still in Grant Park. I believe some of the acts were Counting Crows, The Wallflowers and I know that Buddy Guy was the main act on the 4th. I was just there on the 3rd which is when they also had the fireworks, which started early, around dusk, and was pretty short, maybe 45 minutes to an hour.
