I would like to remove the trunk from my 99 Interstate which leaves me without a tail light, obviously. I believe a tail light from a Tourer or Standard Valk will work on my Interstate but I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has done it already, thanks!

It is an easy bolt on, just make sure ya don't get the gasket under the fender instead of on top.

Then you have to build an electrical connection under the fender.

If you decide to put the trunk back on, the new taillight will not interfere with the box.

In addition to what has already been mentioned, you will probably want to change the rear fender struts. The Interstate struts have the necessary connections to mount the trunk (welded to the struts) and will not be attractive with the trunk missing.

And you'll probably want to mount a sissy bar, that will not be able to mount to the Interstate struts.

You will also, probably want to change the Interstate seat for a standard seat, since the bracket for the rear of the Interstate seat goes with the trunk mount.

Supervalk conversion:

Here is more detail on the taillight.  I got all new parts for a hundred something.  (Beware, the lens from a couple other Hondas will work, but the mounts are not exactly the same as valk mounts) The post is from 2008, so I cannot be sure  current part prices are the same.

Its easy....

Yes you just need to get the tail light assembly and have to wire it in.

I you use quick disconnect plugs for the trunk lights, antenna, and speakers, and do the mod to the trunk bracket, its an easy 5-10 min switch to put it back on... I do it for long trips. The rest of the time its off.

If you change the fender rails you cannot put the trunk back on without changing the rails back  and I have chrome acorn nuts on the mounting bolts and no one has ever said anything.

I converted my 99 Interstate last winter. It is easier then you think.  Like BF said, search super valk. You'll find everything you need with pictures.

I had my trunk off for a couple years and just recently put it back on. Wife likes it on. If I ever take it off again, instead of changing out the struts im going to have the guys at work fab me up a bracket for my sissy bar that will bolt onto the interstate struts and make everything quick disconnect.

On my 99 Interstate (left in Germany) I bought a factory light from a salvage yard...

On the 2000 I hope to pick up over the Christmas holidays I will try this out...

Let me know the quality of the unit if you beat me to it.   Wink

Mine was S valked when bought, unscrew 4 nuts unplug wiring harness stuff it under solo seat, lift off trunk good to go, less than 5 minutes.  Antenna was remounted inside the fairing with a 7" auto antenna.
