Looked through previous posts on similiar issues....Over the past 3 years maybe have had 2 or so incidents of what happened today:

Went to start Valk...all looked fine, lights on, kickstand up...hit the starter switch......nothing, no clicks, no turn over, nothing....after a few up / downs of the kickstand, in / outs of neutral, and coupla hard pushes on the starter switch she fired right up without any lag. Restarted fine afterwards on several attempts. Like I said at the beginning this might of happened 1-2 times previously...alll with about 5 mins of fear...followed by relief.

Wanted to get an idea of what the issue is....doing a cross country 8000 mile trip next month and want to head off any problems. What do yall think...starter switch / relay / sidestand kill switch??

One vote - start button.  See shop talk for do it yourself R&R.  Carefully (small parts can go flying) take the switch housing apart and the push button switch apart and clean up the contacts.  A dab of dilectric grease and reassemble.

Also....Check the ground cable from the battery to the engine. I had very similar symptoms, found bad ground at bolt on the engine. Try connecting a large jumper cable from the battery negative terminal to a good ground point on the engine. If problem goes away, the negative cable or the attachment point is suspect. Do not rely on visual inspection or tightness on the bolt. Mine showed no sign of corrosion and the bolt was tight, but hidden corrosion behind the bolt was enough resistance to cause the problem.

Next time try tapping the right side cover.
My relay just went bad.
Problem solved.
