is it unheard of for the tension pullys on the timing belt to be bad at 37,000 miles 2k I/S?
what kinda of sound do they make?
mine sounds like a very high pitched "warble", directly related to engine speed, and loud enough for ME to hear.

also as a side note: i have a coolant leak, replaced the radiator cap, still leaks. come up over the right side as i'm running down the highway.
not much just a few drops. could it be coming from the upper rad hose?

thanks

It sounds like you have a leak where the "top hose" attaches to the ratiator.  A good cheap way to find leaks is to stuff toilet paper into various nooks and crannies, and take a drive.  The leak will wet the TP.

You can listen to the tensioner pully bearings with a piece of tubing or a stick, one end on the questionable part and the other end on your ear.  They also make mechanics stethoscopes for this.  These bearings can indeed go out when still young, if they did not get lubed right at the factory.

They also squeal if too tight, you haven't possibly been messing with them recently have you?

The belts can "sing" if they are too tight or too loose.
I have heard of pulleys going bad but only one time.

Bearings can go bad early.Take the belts off an check them or listen when the engine is running [ be careful of injury].The bearings can more than likely be replaced, after all it is only a tensioner pully

+1 JeffK.

Trust me, I know these belts will sing.

I used to put timing belts on those dang little Ford Escorts.  Son hated them so I did them to help him out.    My 1st one sang like a scalded Hawk would.  I also got to where I could do them in less time than the labor book allowed.

The bearings are not replaceable.
