OMG! First he gives you a surface shot to help deaden the entry point. Done right after he swabbed it with alcohol...remember what alcohol feels like in an open wound? Holy #$%&*@ that stung. Then comes the big gun, he tells you "here comes a little pinch." He ought to say "this is going hurt lke nothing else." To give you an idea where it goes in, place your thumb on your navel and reach to your thigh about 8" down and near the center of it horizontally. That's where it goes in, keep in mind where that is in reference to where you hip joint is. That will give you an idea of how long the needle was. I've used pitch forks with shorter tangs.  Grin My fingerprints are permanently imbedded in the edge of that table....and I'm supposed to keep my leg muscles relaxed during the procedure. Haven't had that much fun since I snapped my left acchilles playing basketball in 1971.

Now, about 3 1/2 hrs. later the old hip feels pretty good. Here's hoping that's all I need for quite some time.

My father got some of those shots when he had bursitis a few times.

I had bursitis last year... I figured they'd give me the shot... but instead they
gave me a few days worth of "I don't care" drugs and some oral steroids...

I'm glad to avoid the shot  cooldude ...

I'm so sorry John. I have had numerous cortisone injections in my life, back, knees and shoulders. They just hurt so bad but the pain is soon gone and the relief begins. I'm glad to hear that you are feeling some relief already...so, wanna go get some pastry?? Let me know how things are progressing my friend, and of course if you need anything...

I had a shot for bursitis in the same hip three years ago, nothing like this one today. The first one was in the fleshy part of the butt cheek, a little sore at first but that's all. This isn't sore now, figure it will take about 24 hrs. to hit me.

My mom got the shots for her low back.  Some lasted months, some lasted a week.

They finally did surgery and cut the nerve(s).... even they grow back, but not so far.

Of course cutting a nerve will not resolve a bad hip.

Still a few days away, have to install a hydraulic switch down where the clutch line attaches. When I installed Harley handlebar controls, I lost the clutch switch that allows you to start the bike in gear if the side stand is up. So, I just extended those wires down and back to a point near the petcock control. Then down on the clutch slave attachment point I installed a banjo bolt with an integral switch, ran the wires up and used bullet connectors to plug into the clutch wires. Worked great for about 7 years, but now I'm having a little trouble getting up/down from the floor. I'll try tomorrow, might have to "talk" it into place...that's how some things work for me.  Grin

No pain no gain.
I've been there but what I'd worry about now is the outbreaks of meningitis in people who have had steroid injections.  I think it's in a couple of college areas. They found the source and hopefully you didn't get any of that stuff.
If you start having flu like symptoms you might want to check with your DR right away.
Don't want to scare you just give you a heads up.

Glad the shot seems to be doing the job. Hope it works out ok, and you can start being a PIA to Rita again. Roll Eyes

Bill, funny you should mention that. She already told the dr. "it looks like I'll get a few more days reprieve from his antics."  He laughed....she just smiled. Hmmm....  Grin

I get a battery of 3 shots in each knee every 6 months. Not steroids it's about the consistancy of 90 weight With a needle that can best be described as a 6 penny nail. My Ortho doc stands on my feet to keep me from moving while he gives me the injections. Without them I walk like an arthritic 90 year old. They are supposed to hold me over for the next 4 years untill I reach 50 and can get my knee's replaced. Wish I had never played football. tickedoff

Now you know why I'm going through this. Learned the hard way back in the early 50's why they made clipping illegal, it hyperextended the right knee and threw the hip out of alignment but only "slightly" per the dr. at the time. Now, nearly 60 yrs. later that slightly out of alignment has caused arthritis in an area that surprised the dr. Apparently it's in a "slightly" different location than where he usually sees it, and it has worn the cartilage down on one side of the socket. The only thing that wasn't "slightly" was the refreshing process of the injection from the top of the thigh to the joint.

I had enough relief to get out and get under the bike to replace a hydraulic switch on the clutch system. When I was done I started the bike test the repair....good results. But, guess who heard the noise and came out to see what was going on. I hadn't picked up the blanket off the floor yet and she saw it....oh brother!!  Fortunately we don't have a baseball bat in the house.  Grin

there are medical reports out there that prove most types of  arthritis  are caused by a bacteria infection. report stated that 6 months of tetracyline gets rid of it.
Dr gabe reported this on his radio show 20 yrs ago.

John, I've had that procedure done 3 times now, on the same hip.    Dr won't give me any more as it only lasts for a couple of weeks now.

1st replacement was make of a Bakelight material.  I wore it out, and had to have # 2 put in, I'm not sure what it was made out of but it only lasted 7 years, the 1st one was like 6 or so.    The one in there now and so far is working as expected for the past 22 years come January 4th, 2014.   It was put in like late 1990 or 1991.   I retired in 1997, so it has have a rough go, with all the miles I put on MGM in 1997 & 1998.   At least it is my right hip.    Left one I'm afraid to get it replaced, but now that I have 2 Trikes, I shouldn't have any trouble holding a bike up, don't have anything except a 350 Bultaco the last daughter used to race & the 2 Trikes.

I hate to go thru surgery on this one as I know what I put up with on the other one.     Had to have a hip replacement in a very early age as I took a slug in that hip from a convict who held up a Casino in Nevada back in the early days.

I will have to admit, this convict never lived to tell about it.   I was lucky and got him right between the eyes and an inch above his nose.   Dropped him on the spot.   I was down and bleeding pretty good.

Ambulance came, I told them to check on him 1st and then come back to me.   They asked why, then they said he is dead, I told them to make damn sure he was dead, I did not want to be checked on 1st and to let the convict lay in pain.

Otherwise there would have been hell to pay.  He was of a dark skin, and was a Mexican.   Legal one, I might also say.

RJ, I have an inquiry in to my orthpedist's office asking if they do the "anterior" method of replacement. Haven't heard back yet. The recovery period is such that most go back to work in under two weeks, no restrictions on leg movement from the beginning. Reason is there are no muscles cut so recovery is fast, often without needing anything more than a tylenol or similar. They go in from the front with a 2-3" incision, no muscles or tendons cut, and it's done with a fluoroscope allowing better and more exacting placement. Dislocation of the joint following surgery is a fraction of 1%, much less than the old method of cutting the muscles in the butt and side. Here's hoping I don't need it for some time to come.
