MONTGOMERY COUNTY-The owner of a popular Conroe bar was killed around 10 p.m. Saturday night in Conroe when a car driven by an illegal immigrant turned in front of his motorcycle. The driver and passenger then fled on foot. The crash was the county’s second known fatal automobile accident in one day.
Rex Dahl, 58, of Conroe was pronounced dead at a local hospital following the collision.
Sgt. Jon Buckholtz of the Conroe Police Department said the crash occurred in the 1800 block of E. Davis when an eastbound 1997 Saturn sedan turned northbound in front of a westbound 2003 India motorcycle.
Buckholtz said the motorcyclist, Dahl, was unable to avoid a collision.
The motorcycle struck the Saturn, which was attempting turn on Bartle St. The Saturn was not drivable, but the uninjured occupants fled on foot down Bartle St., Buckholtz said.
CPD Officers Oakland, Devore and Bell responded and found the car was registered to an address on Bartle St.
“Patrol officers did an outstanding job,” Buckholtz said. “They went to (the driver’s) house and found and arrested him and his friend.”
The driver was hiding behind his house and the passenger was about to get into a vehicle with someone else.
Cesar Sanchez, 34, of Conroe (driver) was charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide and Failure to Stop and Render Aid. There is also an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold on Sanchez, meaning he is in the US illegally, is not eligible to be released on bond and will be deported after the first two charges are settled by jail time or he is found not guilty.
Armando Bocanegra, 32, of Conroe (passenger) was charged with Public Intoxication and Failure to Report a Felony. There is also an Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold on Bocanegra, meaning he is in the US illegally, is not eligible to be released on bond and will be deported after the first two charges are settled by jail time or he is found not guilty.
Dahl and his wife Kathy own Thirsty’s, a well-known biker bar on FM 3083. The “family friendly” bar was Rex Dahl’s dream for his retirement and it came true when the couple signed a rent to own lease on the location in the summer of 2005. Thirsty’s quickly became a popular gathering place and has been involved in many benefits and charity events in the years since.

Would the outcome have been any less tragic if the bar owner had been killed by an American citizen? Fact is, most bikers in the US are killed by American citizens.

I feel that your comment is probably true. But it's probably also true that they DON'T flee the scene.

When I read the original post I knew that You'd be waiting in the wings ready to POUNCE on the first person that made any reference to the fact that the people who killed this man were illegal aliens, let me repeat for you "ILLEGAL". Which means that they should never have been there to start with. Give it a rest Eagle, a man is dead and his family and friends are mourning his loss. That is the ONLY thing that matters at this time. This is not the time or place to voice your political beliefs. Start your own thread if you like but DON"T stink up this one.

I do to some extent with strong eagles comment when its your time its your time, but the difference is, If they weren't here then he may still be alive. The driving skills are usually much worse and the attitude is usually, I really dont care what the ramifications are and usually they dont have insurance and so dont cover their financial responsibility. I have to have insurance here to cover people who hit me and are not covered by insurance even though its the law that they have insurance. Why aren't these guys charged with vehicular homicide like a regular citizen is? Why when peoples lives are a train wreck do we have to pay for it? I agree that accidents happen, and yes it wouldn't be any better emotionally if it was a US citizen that caused the accident. If our laws were enforced and this p.o.s. was not in the country then maybe we would have another US citizen that pays taxes, obeys the law, has a family here would be going home to them instead of being planted 6 feet under and his family and friends dealing with all the issues of a sudden death. Why do we have to pay the cost of immigration with the blood of American citizens just because someone doesn't have the respect to enter the country legally. This also doesn't say anything about the sexual crimes committed against children from illegals .The government has mandated helmets, seat belts and air bags in cars, so what is the statistic of US citizens killed at the hand of illegal immigrants, did you say 35 a day you would be right? More than die in the war with terror per day. I recently had to go to the emergency room and out of 60 people I maybe saw 4 that looked like they came from here. How about a court system that now has to pay to try the case, the free room and board in prison, the deportation when the sentence is over. I cannot be sympathetic to someone who first broke/ disrespected the law to get into this country and may have already had problems in his home country coming here and killing people. The link below is for the guy from Boston BE WARNED STRONG LANGUAGE DEFINITELY NOT FOR KIDS BUT DISPLAYS THE APPROPRIATE ANGER AT A SITUATION THAT IS OUT OF HAND. I didn't make it a hyper link because of the strong content. If you want to watch copy and paste without the 1111. 1111http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Q03fdDQAUY&feature=related If you really want to see the financial effects of immagration leagal and illeagal then you may want to watch this

No less tragic, but had the illegals not been here, they would not have had the opportunity to be involved in the accident and thus the bar owner would still be alive.

Strongeagle, why? When I first read the post I KNEW you would have something stupid to say. Why couldn't you just say that's terrible, tragic or whatever? Why couldn't you just offer up your condolences? Why couldn't you just rant and rave about the illegal immigration problem? Why did you have to point out that most bikers are killed by American citizens? (Gee we didn't know that) Why, because you are someone who likes to stir the pot. This is the one and only time I will respond to your inane remarks. From now on I will pass over any response by you. I strongly urge everyone else to do the same thing. I have a feeling you will just go away if no one pays attention to you. Just stay overseas and make your tax free money while we help support this country. Don't bother responding, I won't read it. Later traitor.

I also had an friend that was killed by Illegal Immigrants while he was riding his motorcycle, they ran a stop sign and he T-boned them at 45 mph, he never had a chance. He left a wife and 3 young kids behind. Could it have been a legal citizen that caused his death, of course, but it hurts even more to know that they should not have been here to begin with.
Guess what, neither the driver nor the passenger ever showed up for court! There was nothing to keep them here once bailed out (by the public defender on our dime)
I am not against immigration, just ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, if they have nothing at stake, they have no reason to fit in or to obey the laws.
I have been a fan of Roy Beck for quite some time and feel he is right on with his analysis of what is happening to this country because of our lack of control at the borders. I think we should all watch his gumball presentation and take heed. Even that Eagle character would have to admit he is right.(NAW, he would never do that, he gets his jolly's by raising the feathers of the normal people)
