Trailer wiring
«

Hi folks, long time lurker here but dont post much. I just bought an Escapade trailer to pull behind my 98 tourer and am having some wiring issues. Spliced into wiring under right side cover, lights and turn signals correspond correctly but with dimming running lights when brake is applied, acts like a weak ground from my boat trailer days ,just wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks all.

Did you use a converter to do the lights? Sure sounds like a ground issue...either at the trailer light or the bike. I don't rely on a ground through the ball on mine. Connect a ground wire (if you haven't already) and give it a try. Check your connections at the light to make sure they are properly grounded.

No converter, supposedly dont need it with seperate turn/running lights. Grounded to bike frame, then tried grounding to battery-. Same result, Going to inspect trailer wiring if it ever warms up! trailer was bought used.

The wires on the bike are sized for the bike's lights. When you add too many lights, the current needed is too much for the wires. Change all the trailer lights to LEDs which will reduce the current needed.
