What does the data say?

Corinth, Texas

« on: January 11, 2014, 09:06:06 PM »

I stopped at Cycle Center of Denton today to pick up a new fork seal tool for the DFW Football.

When I pulled in the lot, there was an orange/black Standard with its new owner getting ready to leave.

His name is Kevin and has had his Valk for two weeks.  He's been lurking here but hasn't posted yet.  When he does, his handle is RiderGroups. He runs an online motorcycle blog at www.ridergroups.com

He expressed interest in the upcoming wrench party, so I hope we'll see him there.

Hey Valkpiolot, it was nice chatting with you on Saturday. Thanks for all the info on my Valc!

I definitely want to make it to the wrench party if I am free that weekend. I can ride one of these a little but working on them is a whole different story.

Thx again, I look forward to getting lots of info from this board and it's members.

PS Really liking the Valkyrie so far, great bike!

Kevin

Welcome, Kevin!

I signed up on your site and have enjoyed my first newsletter.

That isn't Doc's former ride, is it?  There aren't a lot of orange and blacks.  It is the rarest of Valks, or so he always told us.

Looking forward to sharing wind with you soon.

Kevin, welcome to the asylum!  You don't have to be crazy to join, but it helps sometimes.   uglystupid2

As you already probably know, you don't choose a Valkyrie, she chooses you.

Enjoy the site and ask questions over in the Tech Board.  There are lots of people there who have a great deal of experience with these great machines.

As someone has already stated..... post a pic of your ride.  You have to get a Photobucket.com account (free) and upload the picture there.  Then start a post and paste the IMG code in your post.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the warm welcome.  I am working on a couple of odds and ends for the Valk.

New Windshield: Clearshield with the vent
Bags: working with Viking Bags to get this set (http://www.vikingbags.com/lamellar-slanted-black-leather-covered-motorcycle-hard-saddlebags.htm)

and I need a small dent from the prior owner repaired in the front fender.  If anyone knows a guy in the DFW area it would be appreciated.

So far I am really coming to like this bike.  I had an FJR prior and while I have nothing negative to say about the FJ it just did not move me like some bikes have in the past.

You guys are welcome to sign up on my site at www.RiderGroups.com as well.  It is more of a general mc site, the direct url to register is www.RiderGroups.com/join.

Thanks for all the help so far!

Hey Larry, there were 2 owners before me, most recently was a guy named Luke in Dallas, before that it was registered in Houston.  It only had 11k on the odometer when I got it.

Hey Paxton,

Where did you get your bags from?  They do look an awful lot like the ones I am getting.

Yes, they are N/C with brand new inserts. I purchased them on E-Bay.

There was an attempt to "install" them but one of them was mis-drilled where you know the hole is there
but nobody seems to notice it.  Lips Sealed I often forget that it's there too!  : Embarrassed

So although new, I purchased the package as "Previously Owned."

At the time, new ones were about $775 + Shipping + the optional OEM liners.... closer to $875...  Roll Eyes

I bit the bullet and got this package, including new OEM liners for $565 at my front door.
When I say "this package," it includes the bags, the OEM liners and the universal mounts, all for $565.

I then separately purchased a Valkyrie Tourer OEM Saddlebag Mounting system for $215 in excellent condition.
That's their support system. A way more solid feel to the whole assembly.

The one beef I'd have is that for such expensive product the lids do not always align quite correctly.

I suppose it is because they have always been totally empty and would require them to be filled and parked outside in direct sun light to settle?  Undecided

I think the keys are still taped to the interior shells.

So, my total investment at my front door = $780.

They were on the bike for a short period. About 500 miles.

The entire assembly could be had on a straight trade for an excellent set of
Black Corbin side panels and beetle bags... or..?

Shoot me a PM... no rush. Lips Sealed

Now that I have the I/S and the WING, I don't need big bags on the standard.
The beetle bags would suit me best for 200 mile rides and hustling LA traffic.

Pax, I have a set of Nationals on my 03, but they are scratched up from the PO's fall. I do like the OEM's and the Beetles better but more than I want to pay to replace them.

Welcome Kevin.
