Hey, I was wondering if anyone has had experience with velocity stacks.  I'm thinking of putting them on my bike but not sure.  seems to me that water could get down into the carbs . Does it improve performance? , not that the valk needs it.  Fairly new valk owner but absolutely love this machine

the"velocity stacks" you speak of are only cosmetic and dont have anything to do with performance. they generally stick on with two sided tape.

no these are not the cosmetic ones. they have a screen on the bottom and a small hole I believe.
you take the original covers off to the best of my knowledge.

They are all cosmetic. When I wash the bike I dry them out with a towel .

The screens inside my stacks are made from crisscrossed plastic gutter guard...spray painted gold. It adds a nice effect.
As others have pointed out, they're cosmetic only but get a lot of positive comments.

They have been known to rub on the side of the tank, you may need to put a spacer under the front tank bolt to raise the front of the tank.  Almost guaranteed  to rub on the larger Interstate tank. Hoser  Shocked

Big Bf has a pictorial on his page on the "adjustments" that work the best for an Interstate for fit/clearances.

Saw these at an auto parts store, figured grind the bottom flat and use some double sided tape. And they get smaller at the top so I don't think the tank needs to be lifted.   http://m.ebay.com/itm/190839418951

one of the first add on parts I bought were my stacks yes the spacer is a must or the stack on number 3 carb will dent the tank first and chip the paint causing ongoing problems
the screens are there to fool people into thinking they are real intakes buy I would really like to hear a flat six with stacks but we all know even small air box mods ruin the way the bike runs

but ive ridden kz900s and cb750s with stacks and loved the sound

the stacks and plug valance covers and tranny covers are the best chrome upgrades to start out with for looks all can be done with minor tech skills and tools all have fairly well chrome on them and will last a long time

Someone, I think Mark T at Horseapple Ranch, was playing with the idea of mating LED lights inside the velocity stacks with a circuit board that would make them actually flash with the ignition coils. I think that would be awesome!

Had a buddy with the stacks. He said the only thing they were good for was filling up with water and dribbling on his nicely polish valve covers.

They don't fill up with water, there are substantial drains built in. Adding the spacer to the tank is the first part of the installation, the following stabilizes the tank after raising it.

Seems everybody used mine for ash trays at Bike Night.

Got pessed off, took em off and tossed them in the creek behind the bike night location.

Then I found out who did it and someone took care of his ostrich seat.     NO Mudder F'er, I had nothing to do with it, but I was accused and was hauled into the jail house for questioning.    I quess I convinced them it wasn't me, as I've heard no more from the LEO's.

He had pissed off several attendee's.   Placed nails under the rear tire of several riders, pored water in a couple of gas tanks.   To make a long story short, he got caught in a dark alley and had the sheet beat out of him, plus they broke his arms.    Haven't seen him riding since then, or even at any of the Bike Nights they have here in the summer time.

rkneff777,
They are not functional. Just a screw on chrome bling. Remove the 2 screws on the old cover and replace with the Velocity stacks. I've seen folks playing with people saying they are real, they are not. I cut six pieces pvc tubing, 1" long and dropped in each stack. Then cut 6 pieces of tool box foam and glued them to the pvc. Looks like a filter. At one time I added screen mesh on top of the foam. It gives it a more functional look. I don't wash my bike, so hose water is a none issue. I have hand dried them out one time when caught in a heavy rain, really never had an issue with water mine still look like new. I bought mine many years ago and can't remember what I paid for them, but at the current price for non-functional bling I would have to pass. I know I have a better close up pic, but at this hour, it's all I could find.
