Will it cause undue wear ? Premature, failure?   Lips Sealed

Should I ,,,,, errrr shouldn't I.....   Shocked

Leanin toward,,, turnin it on/off,,,,, every time... Thoughts????      coolsmiley

Stock petcock ONLY and I don't turn it off and on. Dan Mark downstream of the petcock and it goes off with ignition or switch why would you mess with the petcock?? A LOT of things have to line up to get "hydrolock"-a lot of things. RIDE SAFE.

Agreed with the Dan Marc if it is working no fuel will get past that point when ignition is off.

Why did you install the Dan-marc if you're still thinking about turning off a petcock ?

Trash the motor ? Why ? Start it correctly.
I've probably had more fuel locks than anyone as I've mentioned before. I just use a Pingle.

MONKEY WRENCH

Dirt from the tank is usually what makes the petcock leak.
The first time the screen was removed from my tank it had a hole in it.  (From the factory).

QUESTION: What makes you Dan Mark folks think it won't leak through if dirt gets on the seat?
Is it closed by a spring?  Is the spring strong enough to crush rocks?

If your answer is, Well I have one and it ant leaked yet.
That don't count.
Because I have 105000 on my stock pet rooster and it don't leak either.
(Be back in a min I got to look for a piece of wood to hit).

Lee the Dan Marc is fitted Below the Petcock so no matter if the petcock is on off or otherwise it stops fuel from getting to the cylinders.it is an electric Solenoid type shutoff if I understand correctly.
I too only have a stock Petcock with no problems and don't plan on changing unless I have a problem.

Cant fuel leak down the vacuum line off the petcock? That is if the diaphragm is torn. I dont know I have a pingle.

The point I was trying to make is, If dirt gets to the seat of the stock petcock and makes it leak, then dirt can also get to the
seat of the Dan marc solenoid valve and cause it to leak.

A solenoid valve usually uses a spring to keep it closed. (And not a very strong spring).  When 12 volts is applied to the
coil it pulls the plunger back and opens the valve and also over comes the spring.  When power is removed the spring
closes the valve.  If there is dirt on the seat it will leak also.

If you use a pingle and don't wont to cut it off every time you stop then the spring in the Dan Marc will close it off.
If you use a stock pet rooster and cut the engine off vacuum dies and a spring closes the valve.   (SAME THING)

For fuel to leak down the vacuum tube to #6 two things have to happen.
1. The vacuum diaphragm has to have a hole in it.  (happens a lot)
2.  The neoprene valve seal has to have a hole in it. (almost never happens)
And then there is the drain hole in between the two that has to be plugged.  (1 in a 1000,000)

Well, if your strill using an OEM petcock, then you can still get fuel into #6 cylinder.

I have a Danmarc and I'm converting an OEM to manual from vacuum.

Why would I "not" want to turn it off as extra protection?

The original OEM I have on the bike now lets me run all day long in the "off" position.  This worries me.

Yes SpidyJ, I'd say that the petcock you have should definitely be looked at & fixed or get another petcock of some kind.  I'm still running two OEMs...Jim Smiley

Got a manual pingle, I turn it on when I start and turn it off when I park.  Got a label maker and put  turn off the fuel and stuck it to the top the handle bar riser just in case I forget.  All bikes had shut offs when I started riding, so I haven't forgotten yet. Hoser   cooldude
