The Interstate reached the half century mark just 2 miles from Blackdogs' house on the return trip from Copper Harbor.

2000 I/S bought March 3rd 2000.  I'm in my 10th riding season, so I'm averaging 5000 miles a year.  Not as many miles as some put on, but I am not in any race to see how fast I can use up the bike.  And since I also have a '97 Std to split the miles between,  I'll never wear them out in my lifetime.

This last Monday I saw my 2001 Tourer turn 55,555.55......wish I had had a camera with me......I've lost 1 alternator....the only problem I've had with the bike....and I think I caused that to happen.   Went dead on the side of the road when my battery crapped out.   Managed to get it to the house and hooked up my battery charger to crank it to see if I could see anything happening and when I plugged in the charger I didn't realize I had the charger on 200 amp quick start.....so I don't know if I caused the alternator to go out or if the alternator had already gone out and drained the old battery.  anyways......it was an expensive fix.

My bet is the Alternator went South, and then ya run on the battery till it was dead....

Been there done that.

With my old riding buddy (RIP Frank) I lost my alternator in Southern Montana.

We rode both bikes to Iowa on 1 good alternator and 2 batteries.

We swapped out batteries when mine went dead, jumped over to him with cables to get him started and we took off.   About the time I'd start losing power we would stop, swap batteries again and we were good to go, him keeping the batteries fully charged, in the process we pulled the fuses on everything on my bike except my brake light.   We got to where we could swap both batteries in under 5 minutes.......

2 Cops in Cheyenne watched  us swap them out and go.  They followed us for about 5 miles and then red/blue lighted us.  Asked us why, we told them and they said have a safe trip.
