Dealership. My 2000 had it from the factory. I don't know in which year they started with the nice tight "slinky".

Do you think 25mm is a large enough diameter? Without looking at it my bike, I'd guess it should be closer to 30 or 40 mm. Your ebay find won't have nice tight coil spacing like the photo in your initial post. I've just done a little google photo search, and I'm now fairly certain that the shiny tight "slinky" first appeared on 2000 models.

I am looking at my 2000 as I type this. The coils are so close together that it looks almost like a solid piece. I suppose if the ebay coil is long enough the coils could be pushed together to make the same effect. Mine also looks like it may be chromed. Its dirty right now so cant really say but its still shiny compared to the ebay pic.

Wouldn't that be like replacing a tire on a car without taking the rim off the car? Theoretically possible but way more work and trouble. Seriously, though, I think you would bend it way out of shape so it would look terrible.

When you drain the radiator dont forget to burp it after its refilled (as per the book) and if you replace the antifreeze with new, use one thats silicon free or it will destroy the pump impeller

Just rig the front end to a chain fall, and jerk it up horizontal, then you'll hardly lose any coolant. If really on a budget, use Mexican chrome. Silver spray paint. It'll last for weeks.

Reminds me that in (USAF) JAG school we had one guy among 50 of us 1st Lts*, who kept addressing our 04 instructor as....... Yo Maj. The major was a very nice fellow, but he made him stop anyway. (*all direct appointment reserve officers with a few weeks of active duty)

Sorry AirForce, you've only been complicating matters since 1947. Funny to think that if the USAF were a person, it would barely be old enough to draw Social Security.
