Okay guys, I have the forks done, installed on the bike and I am ready to add fluid. I'd like to finish it up today. However, I see in the book that there is a difference in qty $ fluid levels between the 1500C & CT. The CT is a Tourer is that not correct..and the CF has a fairing?
Well, I assumed that this bike was a Tourer due to the saddlebags on the bike that say Tourer on them. However, when I checked the VIN number when I ordered my parts from HDL, the VIN number didnt match the Tourer number bracket, but it did match the C bracket. Does a C come with Tourer bags? So, I dont know what I have. The bike was bought new in the config it is now. The VIN # is 1HSFC3431YA3000XX. What is it??

By Dags Norway site the SC343 says it is a Tourer. Two digits after that the Y
says it's a 2000 year model. The C and not CT is confusing. But on his site the
models list has a variant you can click on to show all models and variants. That
is where it shows the SC343 as an US 49 state Tourer.

Another hint...
If ya have a windshield, does it say 'Tour' on the horizontal chrome part, just above the headlight? If yes, it's probably a Tour. If there is no Tour name on the windshield, it could be a Standard that has Tour Bags, and a Honda Windshield, added later.

You may be confusing yourself by matching VIN numbers when you order parts. There are very few parts on these bikes that are different, for the most part, one part for one is the part for the other. With the exception of the '97's, the front wheel bearings are the same. The thermostatic fan switch on a '97 has different electrical connection than, lets say a 2003, but the switch will fit any model, just change up the bullet connector. Another hint...

Our bikes are at an age where that is not a good indicator, considering the number of added used parts and changes made by adding parts from other bikes.

Yes, there is a windshield and it does sat Tourer on the chrome band. Everything says Tourer except the VIN.

RD...thats true. I am confused and it happened as you said...while I was ordering parts. I didnt think much about because as you say, the PN's are mostly the same..and that was also the case. But the fork fluid qty and level needed more attention. I am gona call it a Tourer and go with that.
Thanks Guys, I appreciate it

Actually there isn't a difference in the level between the Std and Tour. There is with the IS. left fork CT 25.2 oz CF 24.8 oz level CT 5.6" CF 5.8" right fork CT 22.7 CF 22.6 level CT 5.3" CF 5.4"
If using Progressive springs I've found that dropping the amount by 2 oz helps.

Check your rear fender for a reflector on both sides right under the passenger seat... Standards have those, Tourers do not...
-Mike "not much difference between the two besides bags and windshield I think..."

Hi Patrick. Yep, saw that in the book. I had to read it twice as it called the IS a CF. Then to further confuse things they gave the measurement in oz and Imp oz. I had to read it carefully So now that its together, I think I have something fudged up. I looked at Dags site on the fork seal change. Everything went exactly as he and everyone wrote. The bushings went in with no problem as did the seal, snap ring and dust seal. I made the seal driver from Chets Rattlebars site. It worked great. Then I serviced the forks per the book (american oz) pumped then a dozen timed to bleed them, then torqued everything together again. Now I notice that my sliders dont extent all the way down like the pic Dag shows under the heading DONE. They extend maybe 6 ". Theres no fender wheel or brakes on the forks yet but they feel bound up. I can stand on the axle and it wont budge. I dont think this is normal is it? Everything is/was nice and free with full extension and retraction before I torqued the caps. Got any ideas? Damn it I hate to go through this again but it doesnt seem right and I dont want to go any further till I am sure. http://valkyrienorway.com/forksprings.htmlIts the last photo I am talking about Thanks Patrick D
