I have been out of the Valkyrie business for a little over five years, but I'm back in. The bike I had in between had cruise and I miss it. Partially due to age, mine not the bike! I would like to get one installed. Any suggestions on what brand and about what the cost would be. Social Security is my main source of income so I would like to keep it as reasonable as possible.

Thanks for your help.

I put the expensive one from Australia on MGM in 98, it is still there and functioning as described.   It never gets more than 2 + or 2 - on MPH I used to set it.     The switch sets in the weather and about every 4 or 5 years, I take the cover off and spray silicone in it.

My suggestion would be go to the Tech Board and do a search on Cruise.

You should get a bunch of posts already made on this topic.   Some will have excellent instructions, and some won't be worth the paper to print thme off.

I have the "Brakeaway" brand cruise control and love it! They are a little pricey if you buy a new one, but sometimes if you keep your eyes open, you can find a used one for a reasonable price.

I believe the "Brakeaway" is a throttle lock, not a true cruise control.

I also have used a MC Cruise from Australia. Yes they are more expensive.  But in this case you get what you pay for.  You can make a universal cruise work.  But cutting wires and making things fit is not what I want on my bike.  The last MC Cruise I used was on a Kawasaki Concours 1400. All plug & play.  Not a single wire was cut or spliced.

If you are OK with a throttle lock, I bought a beauty from MadcoRider.com that I really like. Looks like it came with the Valk. Works great. Well made.

I don't know about beautiful, but here is the least obvious most unobtrusive throttle lock I've ever found!

Here is one place that offers it!

There's an article or two on the Shoptalk page for installing the Audiovox CCS100 cruise. I've seen a couple of pix where IS owners installed it in the faring to save space.

http://www.valkyrieriders.com/shoptalk/cruise-control.htm

It's $180 at Murphs Kits.

If you have an Interstate (cause of the electronic speed sensor) you can use the Rostra Universal Cruise Electronic Cruise Control and not have to deal with a vacuum unit.   Since I had desmogged my Interstate I didn't want to go back and add more vacuum lines to it.

The mounting and all connections can be done in the Fairing using the parts from the kit.

I used this for my switch, #666, but you can use others.

http://pingelonline.com/slimline_controls.htm

Works like a champ, holds it to within 1-2 mph.

+1  cooldude The best throttle lock IMO is the Brakeaway. I really like the brake release feature in a stop, panic or otherwise. Obviously it can be released by your thumb also.

I agree that the brake-away is a fine throttle lock, especially in an emergency. I managed to pick up a new one really cheap and do like it......however I will be putting a Rostra on my std. this spring/ or sooner if I can locate an inside place to work on it.

Punisher; how does the two button switch work with the cruise? The recommended controller has twoxtwo position switches for four actual press positions.

Bottom button will Set, top button Resume.   Once under Cruise Control, top button increases speed +2 for every press, bottom button decreases speed -2 for ever press.   Tap brakes to disengage.  I have one of these switches set up as my on/off switch for the CC.

Great, thanx! I already have one of the reservoir top switch boxes and don't have plans for all of the switches yet.
