Hello all, Happy Holidays. Does anyone in the HEB area have the tool to loosen the swing-arm lock nut, that I might borrow? I tried to purchase one but the best I can find is special-order 2 to4 weeks. I'm doing some maintence, and wanted to have a look at the U-Joint. I purchased my Valk used about a year ago, with 54,000 and just pulled the rear to check the splines and drive cushons. At 62,000 they look perfect. I also tore into the front-end because the stering stem bearings were a bit loose, cleaned and repacked, but upon reassembly they now feel a bit "notchy" so will replace those. New brake pads and possibly new tires as long as it is apart.
If you would care to loan a tool, (817) 282-5299

NOTE:

The swing arm doesn't need to be loosened or removed to check or change the u-joint.

No special tools required. No pipe or swing arm removal required.

Hope that helps!

Daniel, so glad you replyed, I wanted to  possibly get one of your books. So the joint will come through the swingarm tube ? Both the Clymer and the Valkyrie manual said to remove it. I was wondering how people were doing that. It explanes why nobody had the tool. If I could ask another question; can the cross joint be replaced in the coupling if it is found to be loose? Is it best to just replace the whole coupling.
I keep my airplanes in Bonham, and fly to Paris on a sunny afternoon, but sometimes ride through Clarksville on the Valk, Hwy 82 is a good relaxing ride. Read your "post" about the house with great intrest, would love to do something like that, the picture of the house after the turn of the century was most interesting!

The joint will come out the front of the tube, with the rubber boot pulled back. Check the rattlebars link above for pictures.

The crossbar is not replacable. The entire joint/coupling is sold as a unit. About $90 from HDL

The house is a bit of work for sure...but I've always got to have a project! LOL!
