Hmmmm,, the question is, how long would it run at that temperature?
I do wonder... what was that motor driving?

The one on my 100 hp John Deere 4020 runs around 800-1000, with 1050 being the max. I had a turbo explode on a Detriot powered semi truck once... very messy....7 gallons of oil went out the exhaust before I got it stopped. The exhaust side of the turbine ended up in the muffler. HT

That color temperature looks to be 1200 F. Like a stove top element on high.

It is a Cat 3416 engine with 4 turbos that power a 750KW generator.
That was with a 733KW load and ran for 2 hours until the test ended.
Due to the testing we did and length of the exhaust pipe and number of elbows in the exhuast pipe we had to derate the generator to 650KW to allow the engine to run without engine damage.

Great pictures. Figured out in that second from last one, the angle the piston impacted the wall at. Must have had some velocity at what looks like a shallow angle to me.
My brother works for the competition, CPR, so I'll forward this link to him showing the CN train sitting there, minus a piston.

So what kind of adjustable loads are used to dissipate that kind of power??

The trailer behind my truck is a load bank this one is rated for 2000 KW. I can load test all generators from 100KW to 2000KW for all voltages between 208 and 480 volts 3 phase. Voltages above 480 I have to use transformers to step down the voltages. The box on the back are the cable reels. The large tall box in the middle houses the 3 Large fan motors and a bank of electric heat elements.
