CT - General Altimax 205/60r -16 how much clearance should I have on the right side between tire and swingarm? I only have maybe 1/16 space with no rider on it. First CT for me so not sure that will work. Please advise, Wewa

Mine has always been a credit card thickness. My first CT got a few scuffs on the sidewall. Upped the air pressure a few #'s and all was ok.

Had the same make and size on my I/S. 3 credit card thickness's between sidewall and swing arm. Recommend 34 36 P S I to start. Make SURE your gage is accurate. And the 3 credit cards are NOT jammed in there. Could not get the 4th thickness BUT I never rubbed sidewall. RIDE SAFE.

Maybe two credit cards on mine, looks close but does not rub, Remember, the clearance at the swing arm level will not change no matter how many people you put on your bike.

Like they said, very close to swingarm usually will never touch.
But I hope you did the nutcages, it will touch them, and moreso with a passenger.

Jess , yes I did the nut cage mod but I was a tad bit concerned about clearance so I bought a 1/2 inch longer bolt and nylock nut and installed it from the underside out. Now only the bolt head is under there. Of course I have not put the shocks back on so there was pretty much NO clearance when the bike was fully lowered. I guess when the shocks are installed it will keep the bike higher up above the bolt.

You mean the shock will keep the bolt head above the tire?
Well no.... the top outside of the sidewall will overlap the bolt head, but should not rub if the nutcage is gone, even with a passenger. If it does rub, on one side (rare) there is always the fender washer mod, but very unlikely.

Mine run close enough to knock the dust from the sidewall. Never actually touched though

No, that OE square nut (to be held inside the cage) is a big fatboy and you don't want it there. (It might be OK, or it might not, and only riding two up for hours will tell for sure, if it rubs it will score your outer sidewall near the tread) All I did was use the original bolt, but went to a single thin hex nut (w antisieze). Many use a carriage bolt (smooth domed head) from the inside out, then add decorative acorn nuts outside the fender strut, but I didn't. The one small thin nut has been tight on both sides for years with no issue for me, it doesn't really carry any major load.

I didn't need the nutcage mod but did it anyway. I use stock bolt & nut with no problem. If this is your first car tire don't get freaked out with the low speed handling. You'll get used to it pretty quick. Good luck

3/16 tire rounded clearance to swing arm. 205-60-16. Used feeler gage. and 3/16 black dust cover edge to machined wheel groove edge.

On second thought, leave the big fat nut on there. If it did rub, it's not that bad to change.
Preparing for my first CT, I went out of my way to create space. A 205 does fill up the space pretty well.
The big nut would be much easier to wrench on later (esp reaching underneath), if necessary.

I was able to stop the nutcage from rubbing with only doing the "washer mod"

I have a Falken Ziex ZE-512 205/65R-16 on the rear. It clears the swingarm on the right by one credit card. It has always rubbed on something in certain situations. I was worried at first, but after 30K miles I don't worry about it any more. It's just a scrubbed spot on the right sidewall that has deleted the manufacturers lettering. No biggie. Fred.
