Has anyone studded the heads on their Valk? If so I would like your ordering info. I am not having any success in finding any.

Studding the heads is a term used when one removes the head bolts and replaces them with studs. The only people that would or should have considered or done this would be those who have built a High performance Valk.

is this to increase the rod ratio? kinda curious what our stock ratio is. we used to play with studs and shims on vw engines. i would think the ratio is pretty high already, since the peak hp is close to redline instead of a small block chevy type low rpm peak hp.

I'm not sure how playing with head bolts/studs and shims affects the rods or pistons, but changing head gasket thickness WILL affect the compression ratio.

well, with chevys they would stuff longer rods in....with the 1600 vw motor the goal for a race setup was shorten the rod, stuff a wider crank and then lathe the heads, and shim back to decrease the rod ratio...problem was it tore up the sidewalls pretty fast.

ARP Fasteners may be able to make a set with rolled threads on both ends.

Apr said they can not help. I want to do this for easier head removal ans installation. I do not have a standard Valk like many of you have. It is blown with methanol injection and nitros.

I believe that I may have found a solution though. Honda uses studs in a couple of other models but the bolt is about 25mm longer. I am thinking that may be okay. Th bolt measurement is taken from under the head. By the time a washer and nut are added I just me be right where  need to be. The dealer is sending me a couple of them to try. I hope they work.

BTW the studs have nothing to do with compression. Google it, there will be some interesting reading.

I think that studding the heads has benefits for peple that take the heads off frequently, such as drag racers. You can lock the studs in the block and when the heads are taken off and back on, the wear is on the other end of the stud rather than the threads in the block. You are still limited to the strength of the block threads, but studs lengthen their life, Each time you install and torgue a bolt into the block, there is some fatigue of the threads in the block.
